since it is friday afternoon and no one has started yet, thought I would kick off this weeks fun. Nothing spectacular from me, but a big mile stone as Construction on the layout has finally begun. The bench work has been built for a while, but finally got started laying roadbed and foam.
I was in Michigan last weekend for the Nascar race. We stayed in Kalamazoo because there wasn’t anything closer to the track. Portage Michigan, which is like a mile away, has a shop called the Train Barn. They sell primarily larger scale trains. They had a few HO items to look at as well. The main reason I went there was to see their 2,800 square foot layout. It’s O scale, but still cool to see. The race got rained out, so this was the only highlight of the weekend.
Medic, lookin’ great! Ain’t it a nice feeling, seeing the railroad taking shape?
Okay, I spent about 10 hours on the railroad yesterday, and three or four times that over the course of the week, so I’d better have something to show for it.
Beginning work on a new hill in the back there. The insulation foam is in, and the ground foam coming. Unfortunately, I have to finish this hill before building my main yard, as once the yard is built this area will be virtually inaccessible. Sigh.
Not much in this one, but this is the beginnings of the Bellows Falls, VT tunnel. Those who have seen it will see a familiar scene beginning to take shape.
New retaining wall on US-5 just south of Bellows Falls. Another relatively simple project, but one that was overdue for many months now.
And now to the good stuff, I guess.
Yesterday was spent installing new lighting. The railroad is now lit by basically Fugate inspired lighting. In that shot, I had the work light on, so the effect wasn’t very strong. I’ll take another with that light off, with the essentially shadowbox effect. Thanks Joe!

Above is my first every pure scratchbuild. It serves as a flour unloading bay for &quo
In the little time I had to work on the layout, I did manage to finish the retaining wall in front of the park.
I also added the sign and more scenery to Millers’s Bed and Breakfast. I think that is one of the girls out there cleaning off the sidewalk so mom can take a break and catch up on her reading.
Another view of the place. Dang! Those pesky raccoons are into the garbage cans again!
I took a few pictures of the bulk of my fleet, and then realized that I included a project that wasn’t ready for the public eye…So I had to do a little censoring. [;)]
Still working on my barn little by little. Man it’s taking me a long time to get this done [:-^]. I sprayed the roof tonight just to make it look a little better than the look of styrene while I work on the rest of the barn. WOW what a difference it made! It definatly needs to be weathered down, but it gave me some more ambition to get the stone work done [dinner]
Wow, gorgeous work everyone! Graphiti…LOVE the barn…sweeet!!! The rock foundation, wow…just fantastic! I have been busy building a homemade bellcrank for my double crossover! Finally got 2 of the turnouts tweaked and working!!! I should have used brass originally for the shaft of the bellcrank! Oh well! I will take pictures and post tomorrow! Ciao.
