Weekend Photo Fun 8/26-9/01

An ancient Mantua 2-8-2 that’s in my collection.

True Dat! Here I am truing up some Chooch cast resin parts, they are excellent products, any resin product that would be used like I am using these, would probably be out of square, just a result of the casting process. As you can see it is not much & just a minimum was removed to true up the parts. For someone who is new to machining, resin is an exellent material to learn with, (as is engineering block, like a micro fine MDF like material). Resin does give feedback on the mill so you can learn to feel what the machine is telling you.

This is a shot of truing up or facing square, a casting of bridge abutment. The top has been done, & I am working on the ledge that supports the bridge. I was using a dovetail cutter, but the shank would not let me get back into the entire ledge, it was chisled out later. One can see that I only took off the minimum leaving some of the scribed & textured details. The effort was only to make the casting true & square to it’s base so the bridges (3 of them) will line up, sit flat & be straight.

This is a shot of truing up or facing square, a casting of bridge pier. The top has been started & there was a test cut also shown as I was looking for the low spot to set the depth of cut. The effort was only to make the casting true & square to it’s base so the bridges (3 of them) will line up, sit flat & be straight. The tops of both piers will be scribed with stone block details, & have a riser added to ‘deck match’ the different bridge spans.

Nice shot, Jeffrey.

Just a yard shot from me, this week. DJ.

The Sundae sign on my ice cream shop

I got my roundhouse together. A little bit of finishing work and it will be done

Oh Gee, thanks Art. Now you have made me thirsty for something I have not seen on store shelves or coolers for years…Hires Root Beer. Always thought that they had the best root beer on the market. Great pic!

Since I am on vacation in Southern California this week, I have not finished any freight cars, so here are some pictures I took of some of my motive power at the railroad club in Strongsville.

A Pennsy N1 stopping for water.

Stopping at the tower for orders with a coal drag with the 20th Century in the background.

A pair of NKP GP30’s with a general freight train.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Art, I recognize that store! Good of Picorelli’s one of my favorite JL Enterprises Models.

But that is not why I came here today. In the background of Picorelli’s you can see the edge of my scratch built Benld Coliseum Ball Room. This place was a real hot spot between Chicago and St. Louis hosting big bands, Duke Ellington, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong and Lawrence Welk in the 1940s; Guy Lombardo, Fats Domino, Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry. Ike and Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley and Johnny Rivers in the 1960s; Bob Seger, Styx, Foghat and Head East in the 1970s; and, Heart, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and Mama’s Pride in the 1980s to name a few.

Back in the day it looked like this

more recently it ceased being a ballroom and became and antiques mall

This is what it looked like earlier this month

Now it stands as a burned out hulk with almost a century of history gone up in smoke.

The morale of this story is to get out an photograph anything you want to model. You never know how long it will last!

Started to lay the track on the peninsula and ran the first train made of several custom painted and weathered hoppers and gondolas.

So I true. Years ago, when I still shot with a traditional camera, I didn’t shot building that I though would be still standing next time I would go in the same area. I tried to save on film. So wrong… The first things that went under disastrous overhaul, destroyed or burnt down were the one I didn’t shot.

Running along a road

Here is a older picture from the mining section.

I hope to post some new photos as soon as I can find where to get “Microsoft Java Virtual Machine”.

Micheal I had doubts about how you where going to build your layout using the grass mat. Now, well I just shut up an watch you goooooooooooooooooooooo!

Hum, Micheal, do you know where too get the need software? [:-^]

Ken

Finally got the new and improved engine facilities in Deer Creek up and running this week. And it WORKS!! YES!!

Anyway, here’s a couple of shots. Have to do some detail work yet, but basically it’s done.

Tom [:D]

Ken, what grass mat? [:$]

Actually, I did it more to cover the pink foam quickly, as I couldn’t stand the look of it. But for my extension room layout, I’m painting the foam.

Microsoft stopped developing and supporting the Java Virtual Machine.

Why are you looking for it anyways? Why do you need it to post photos?

Finishing scrachbuilt bridge, changing look of double helix

Hey Art ,& Simon

I have one of those too! Mine is way back there near the edge of town

Sam

Excellent Photo’s Everyone! Nice!!!

Progress on the bridges. This thing is huge, -until I think I can only put 5 or 6 locomotives on it! It is just moched up for this picture, & for the decision making process. I added the risers to be able to do some neat scenery. With some of the creek beds I have modeled in the past, I ran out of depth fast, so I made sure I have enough for some larger stone & rocks, etc. The Truss Bridge is on temporary wood blocks until I can cast some stone ones.

I finished installing another signal, this one an intermediate half way between Ben Creek and Gilbert

And a short video showing the signal in action

Rick, that is a lot to take in. Fantastic! But it sure looks like a lot, and could be easy to run out of room. I am just down the road from you, so if you need to store any of that just drop it by…
