I’m going to sell at the “Greenberg toy and train show” in November, so I might have to get some “weathered” cars ready…So you might not see to many more “weathered” things from me. Hopefully more layout shots!
Finally finished the old roundhouse 2-8-0 kit (I hope.) It was finished once before until I found the Elesco feed water heater castings hidden away years ago. Smoke and steam courtesy of Gimp2.
Robby, nice weathering, my only complaint is the nice even edge on the over spray, I used to mask the roof that neatly when I painted cars with a galvanized roof, but after seeing a string of MTW cars while crossing the bridge into Canada at the SOO, I paint the roof then paint the sides and let the paint go where it wants to go. Some of the MTW cars had a little bit of over spay and others were almost totally painted over.
Here are pictures of the next steps in building my Exact Rail PS 4427’s.
After installing slack adjuster and airline.
Installing Sill Steps on the Bolster Platform.
Installing Bolster and Bolster Caps on the Body.
Installing Eye Bolt for Cut Lever on Car Ends.
Installing Retainer Valve, Retainer Valve Air Line, Air Reservoir, Triple Valve, Brake Cylinder and Linkage on B End of Car.
That little Retainer Valve at the top of the car was an item I launched across the work bench and finally found about an hour later. [banghead][banghead]
We are off to a slow start, but some good looking photos.
I still don’t understand why the tops of your rails look so rusted but your trains still run Crandell. But that was a great shoot, H 8 right? I saved it for my Layout Folder, just wish it was a little bigger.
**Rick…**I get what you are saying. It was painted at the factory (athearn), and I guess I over looked that part. I normally blend that in, but since it isn’t to rusted, I guess it stands out.
I can’t explain why my rail tops look as they do. They are quite a bit more shiny from other angles, and some photos show it much better than others. However, they most certainly are not painted.
Here is a better photo…
Same location, just the other side of the trestle.
I might not be done with this project, but I figured I would post the progress. This is a N-scale shay I picked up awhile back and just wasn’t sure how I wanted to go about getting it together. I cannot find any other models like it, other than an HO scale PFM shay to use as reference. Here is what it looked like when I bought it
The trucks and engine are just setting there, but that’s the next task to deal with. I finally found a small motor that will fit in the bunker, with no room to spare, . I need to find some various pictures of the PFM shay to help me figure out a couple other pieces, and then I need to locate a generator, compressor , and the rest of the items on the “dark side” of a shay.
I have been working on the interior of my Tum-A-Lum Lumber Company. This will be the hardware store side of the facility and will feature a covered lumber yard which is rail served. I have plan to have a full interior and have started with some shelveing and a real wood floor.
The National Narrow Guage Convention is going on this week in St. Louis and I had a chance to get over there yesterday evening and spend some time looking at the models in the contest room and exhibit areas. Here are a series of shots taken of the “Sundance Central” larger scale modular layout. This modular is staggering in its size and the amount of detail. I just picked out a few scenes which really don’t begin to do it justice.
