Good morning from cloudy, cool and rainy Northeast Ohio!
Back to posting this week, been very busy with a lot of things recently.
Managed to finish an Exactrail Evans 4780CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Orange paint and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Evans came up with their own design for a covered hopper to cope with the car shortage due to the export grain market and the retirement of 40’ boxcars for grain movement.

When Hubert Mask died I was unable to get one of his Southern Brick car kits, but luckily a fellow MFCL group member offered a couple for sale, so I picked one up. Here are the kit contents, I have so far cleaned up the side castings and drilled out the holes for applying the grabs and ladders.
A pair Athearn Southern Railway GP38-2’s with a general freight running on Strongsville club layout.

Since N scale buildings available were not exactly what I wanted for my layout, I decided to try scratch building some I did want. My wife’s favorite place to eat when we travel is Cracker Barrel, so I built her one. The rocking chairs are from Gold Medal Models. There are very fews sources of N scale cars (depending on the amount of money you want to spend). I found a box of fifty of these cars for only a few dollars. They’re not highly detailed, but from a few feet away, they look OK. The most dificult part of the build was lighting the signs.

Last week I showed the PRR brick depot nearing completion and this has given me the impetus to get one of the last stretches of bare plywood on the layout closer to completion:

I added a platform to the westbound track so trains can make a brief stop there without crossing over. This was a common arrangement I’ve seen in other locations:
