Weekend Photo Fun Aug 27 - 29

Wash Me!!!

This is an Atlas HO 8-40C locomotive that I patched out & weathered. I intended this to look really dirty & neglected, but somewhat identifiable. I wanted to work on rusting the tops of the engine access doors where paint would have faded all the way through the primer. It is also a smoky GE, which must have missed some maintenance sessions from the exhaust sooting. Most of the work was done with washes, drybrushing, & then powders to get the effects. Most was just done freehand, with the exception of masking the tops of the doors with a post-it note, & initial patch out of the UP logos & names. Dust & the exhaust soot were airbrushed, and then everything was dullcoated. I also replaced the brake chain with a 40LPI one.
Next is a new Walthers Evans 4780 Hopper in DM&E. I did a little wash, powders, & airbrushing on it. For the photo I added P87 wheels. I did disassemble this, & everything is glued down, so be careful if planning the same. It is constructed exactly like (& feels like) an Accurail hopper car. Interestingly, the walkways are PE nested in a molded plastic frame & look pretty good, but I would have been fooled looking in the box, at a store. I added Kaydee couplers, air hoses, & cut bars. Since I model ICE/DME I always look for ICE/DME subjects. I’m glad to add it to my roster.
Both were photographed on the little shelf/photo display I finished about month ago, & posted about a couple weeks back.
Thanks for looking!

Hiding a 180 degree curve Regards Jon.

Nice weathering up top…very nice!! And that’s a very clever and artistic hiding…of a horseshoe curve I mean. [:D]

Here’s mine.

Hey, thanks Crandell !!!

I appreciate you taking the time to compliment.

I really like your ‘Fellas’ in your scene, it adds action & a story happening. What is in that dude’s box, Vodka? it is the weekend!!!

Say, what ladders are one the caboose? they look great, I like the ‘thinness’ of the roof guard grab hoops very much. Very scale & very nice.

Jon: Love the choice of auto’s there, I’m partial to the Mack wrecker & '69 Stang. I tried to Eleanor-ish a Herpa one & it came out fairly OK. I might go shoot it quick for ya.

Great work fellas!!

Hey Crandell, that little guy sure gets around!

Once again, nice shots!!

Here’s my contribution…

It’s great to have a fast start with Weekend Photo Fun! Great stuff so far… Chad, your weathering of GE unit and covered hopper looks real…jdaho …The city scene looks great. I see the diner there … Crandell, that’s a super photo. Almost feels like I’m there in the scene. …Stebbycentral, that’s a great photo! …Robby, terrific weathering of the hopper …

On my layout, my fictional train, the GN Plainesman, has steam power today, a 4-8-2. I am also showing a close-up of my volleyball game in the County Park ( to the far right in first photo, also).

This one’s titled “Learning Experience”.

I’ve been trying to refurbish/rejuvenate my grandfather’s old locomotives. This was my first attempt. Subsequent tries have been much more successful.

Edited to add: Clearly this is a learning experience in more ways than one… how do you post a picture!?

2nd edit: Once you get the correct link, the picture shows up…

Hello Krupa … Sorry you had a "learning experience " posting a picture. We do it from an image hosting sight. Save your photos in an imaging hosting sight such as Photobucket. Then, copy the IMG code into your post. Ask more questions in this forum, and somebody will probably answer to help.

Thanks. I found that with Google (i.e. Picasa), if you click the link that says “Link to this Photo”, it gives you a link to the PAGE displaying the image, not the image itself (because a link to the actual photo would be just crazy).

In Firefox, you can right-click on the image and click “Copy Image Location” which will give you the link to the actual image itself.

Extra 4058 leaving the yard with the the local’s caboose set out on the station track.

Started working on building my ExactRail 4427 kits, after I printed out the 37 pages of instructions, I decided to build all four cars assembly line fashion. This is the progress so far.

This is the setup on my Workbench.

After the installation of the car weights, for some reason they included 8 weights while only six are needed, I will same the extras in my IMRC 4750’s.

This is after the installation of the bulkheads and center sills.

Thanks for looking.

Rick

Yeah, he’s definitely the busiest guy I know in HO. [(-D]

Going along with this theme, B&M GP7 1715 was nice and shiney in 1976 when it came from the shop in it’s simplified bicentenial paint. Now after four years of hard work, the loco is grimey with some rust showing through. Too dirty for the head end, it has to run in the middle between a couple of newer GP-40-2s. The abandoned interlocking tower is not looking that great either.

I just love this weekly post.

Nothing new Here just an old video of Some Double Headed Steam

Looks great guys! Nothing new, been getting supplies for the weekend of scenery. Hope to post next Friday!

Great pictures.

Here’s my part, coupling a Biffy to a stock car. [:)]

A plastic kit I built, detailed a little and weathered last week. Just a fun project.

Bob

Rick,

So how long does it take to put together 1 of those kits? And how hard is it to put together an exact rail.
