My present ‘main project’ is to update my old Tichy 200 ton coaling tower. I built the first one back in 1996 and wired a dozen or so 1.5 volt grain of rice bulbs for lighting. Well, I recruited a friend to help me with the voltage regulator to get the low voltage the lamps needed and when we wired it up neither one of us checked the output! As it turns out the pot was wired backwards so all the tiny lamps went poof in a matter of milliseconds!
I vowed to one day replace all those lamps and here we are thirty years later. The only way to access the concealed wiring was to completely build a whole new tower!
Here’s what the demolition crew managed:

And now with some of the new lights (LEDs of course) in place:

I pulled all the wiring up through the roof to make the final connections. I can relate to what surgeons have to deal with making sutures with hair-like thread. I hate dealing with microscopic wire sizes!

As of last night I have all the lights wired and some of the new platform and ladder details added. Maybe I’ll get some follow-up photos posted before the weekend is over!

Thanks for starting another WPF, Ed!
The guy at Krell Pipe just dropped a pipe he was loading onto his flatbed.
Looking good Ed. I’ve no doubt in my mind you’ll get that project all dialed.
Me right now, have nothing but replays going on over here. Bridge #1’s remodel has been slow go. Modeling is not like riding a bike. The less ya do for a while, the rustier ya get.
Getting resituated on the modeling board again though. Got all the tools layed out, and fumbling around through my many envelopes of styrene, getting refamiliarized after a long while.
It’s looking like I’ve got the rest of the Winter off is good. Finally no one’s blowing up my phone
Bridge #8 has had its mouth flapping for new improved piers. Bridge #4 needs new abutments. Bridge #9 wants to be a Wood/Steel combo. What are ya gonna do though?
Bridge #5 is the only bridge that needs no improvements.
Upside down looks like a gnarly skateboard park. I’ll cross all these bridges when gotten to

PS That night scene looks awesome John
TF, we might have to change your handle to Bridge Fiddler

Ed, Thanks for opening the WPF with the ‘elephant ears’. Had some fun rummaging thru my archives for an offering.
Thanks to all and have a good weekend. Regards, Peter
Time to get back to work on making my carpet central into something a bit more interesting than a blue rug
Just a few of the many pictures I took of the Modutrak layout at Trainfest. Overall I took alot of pictures of several of the fine layouts that were there this year.

Guess that works Chris!

I got my Intermountain U18B all finished up this weekend, after adding a Decoder Buddy, a LokSound decoder, a Scale Sound Systems speaker, and new LED lights. Not shown here are the Gyra Light and red emergency light, which, no thanks to the SCL, are installed on both ends of this Baby Boat. Here it is, lashed up to a U36B on a local freight near Southern Pines, North Carolina:

Adding 2 oz of weight to my Red Caboose 40’ AAR Monon boxcar using Gorilla Tough & Clear mounting tape…
Now time to top things off…Done.
I have to say that Red Caboose (RC) choosing to use a light gray styrene then painting over everything after the molding process wasn’t thinking about parts needing to be removed from the sprue. Every place where the part is attached to the sprue leaves a small or not so small light spot on the part after it’s remove. Some are in places where it’s less conspicuous - e.g. the underframe. Others are more noticeable - e.g. the sides of the ladders and the top of the Superior door.
A little touch of appropriately-colored paint should obscure the spots sufficiently enough. RC opting to use a brownish-tinted base for the styrene would have been a wiser plan in my eyes. Great kits, otherwise.

Thanks to all who have participated (and read) the final WPF of 2024!
Here’s an update to my coal tower (wharf on the PRR). I have all the LEDs wired and now tested. Ready for the final (delicate!) details then setting everything in place.

Gee Ed, thnx for making me fell inferior! Your skill level far exceeds my bottom of the pay scale level. Very nice work indeed!

Beautifully realistic scene!
Dave, beautiful job in capturing the SCL!
I’ll surely hang Trackside to look at that👍
