Weekend Photo Fun July 13-15

Groovy work, fellows!

Spent the last couple weeks building an 8" manual turntable for my Free-moN staging yard:

Here’s a short video of it in operation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epkJUTE4njA

The turntable uses a 1/4" mono audio jack as pivot and juice feeder, but relies on washers under the ends of the bridge to ride smooth on the pit rail to provide stability and accurate alignment.
Digitrax AR1 for autoreversing (works great).

Also created a play-by-play “How To” in the “Tips & Tutorials” section of my website.
Any / all feedback appreciated!

Also started detailing and installing the tanks on the other staging yard section:

Gotta love ABS caps for cheap tanks.
Still need to weather and lay down the gravel around them.

Keep up the amazing modeling: WPF is always a great inspiration!
Have a great weekend.

I learned mysely how to decal[:P]

Thanks Curt,

I thought I’d put in a video of my flickering fire, but ran into the same problem as you.

I just use an old AM radio to power my flickering Leds.

thanks for your reply.

cheers

Been a while since I added something here…

Wow, what a great photo, James!

I got a new 44 tonner by Bachmann on Wednesday. Been playing around with it some this weekend.

I also did a little video review/demo a few days ago.

I also submitted it to the MRR ‘user videos’ section, it has yet to appear, but I will remain hopeful [;)]

I am also hoping to FINALLY start the scenery on my layout this week. I guess I am just scared I will screw it up…[:(]

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Wow! So much great modeling going on around here! Nice folks!

I have still been doing a lot of very unphotogenic stuff on the layout. I did, however do a bit of upgrading of a trestle bridge over a gorge that I built about a decade ago. Added some supports and tried something to see if it would work. Used “O” scale rivets as bolt heads on the timbers. Most did well, but I see some either got rubbed off or fell off when I used Dullcoat to seal them in place. Easy fix…

It is just setting in place for the moment. Still have a lot of stuff to do in this scene.

Some really awesome pics this week. Here are a few recent projects.

Loafing at Red Mountain station while waiting for a train. Adding just a few people really enlivens a scene that’s far from finished.

My Herpa hydraulic boom arrived and is now installed on the Gold Prince Mill’s tramway tower Oshkosh service truck.

The brown car on the left, D&RGW 180, may be the only HOn3 RBL in the world. Totally imaginary, but it was a fun bash.

The is a Grandt Line Valley Feed & Seed. It’s being transformed into Mable’s. She handles the provision contract for the loggers, as well as having plenty of cold suds on tap.

twhite that is just gorgeous.

Some nice work guys! Just some progress from a few weeks ago, I have put ballast down since the photo. Increased the radius to 30 inches as a DDA40X is coming soon!

Here is the completed Moloco GATC RBL boxcar after I have added all the ladders, brake wheel, housing, sill steps, and door detail. It is now ready to be washed and painted.

A end of the car with ladders, made out of delrin, so they will not break due to handling. walkover platform and cut levers.

B end of the car, with ladders, brake housing, brake wheel, walkover platform and cut levers.

Side view of the car, with ladders, roofwalk and door hardware (also delrin) attached.

Bottom view with all detail including stepped sill steps, that are angled to give the car its Plate B clearance.

Excellent rock face and true to life coloring

Thanks bob! Just used the methods described in Joe Fugate’s video. I used rock molds rather than carving them. Nigel
