Weekend Photo Fun June 15th-17th

I always enjoy seeing everybody’s pictures. I hadn’t seen the thread for this weekend, so I thought I’d try to start one. I’m really just getting started on my layout. Here it goes!

The other half of my table is pretty much just track and grass mat. No need to show that!

Pretty good. Only thing I’d suggest is make the transition from flat to hill smoother. Try Sculptamold. BTW, I’m talking about pix 2 and 3.
Other than that it looks great.

It does look a little odd, huh? I’ll have to fill that in. I f you look closely, I actually had a better hill going the other way. The only problem was going over the n scale track that is going to go from the mine to the coal thingy. Thanks for the looks.

Are you going to do anything about track going into that tunnel portal?

Yes, I actually havn’t finished painting the portal yet. I have some n scale track that I’m going to run into the hill. I thought I could use an n scale ore car for a make shift coal car. I’m trying to use some of the old buildings I had form my childhood. I know my mining operation isn’t exactly prototypical. The small track will go into the side of the building on the right hand side. Anybody else have any pictures? I noticed the discussions have been pretty lively in other threads!

In another thread, some meantioned they like CB&Q’s blackbird scheme. So here are few Blackbirds operating in my fictional town of Blackhawk.

Nice looking engines Garry. Apparently there is little fun going on in the forum today!

More CB&Q…

Good start to the weekend, everyone.

The Pit-Bash continues. This is an Atlas deck turntable I’ve been converting to a pit model. Today I painted and weathered the pit wall segments, hydrocal castings from a mold by Dave Frary at http://www.mrscenery.com/. Then I glued them in place in the pit around the turntable.

I’ve pulled of the roundhouse for finishing work. I’m re-mortaring the walls, fixing up the plank floor where it interferes with some of the engines, adjusting one of the stall tracks, and adding details and lighting. The roundhouse was the first kit I put together in my second incarnation as a model railroader. The lesson I learned from it is - do an easy kit first!

Mr. Beasley … [tup] for turntable!

Nice work guys! I always like looking at this thread. No pictures this weekend. Haven’t worked on the layout. I might be able to get some picture of my railfanning trip comming up as a late WPF. If you guys don’t mind.

Well,

I finally took pictures of something I did!

I wired my Athearn F59PHI today! Mind you I did a terrible job, but it runs grrrreat!

My contribution…

A sneek peek at my Chessie coil car.

AAAAHHHHH Pictures! I love pictures! Much better than watching a school yard fight!

Well, it’s not much to look at, but here’s my finalized track plan…drawn in XTrkCad. The entrance to the layout room is on the left side at the 10’ mark.

Don Z.

Looks like a load of fun, Don.

Few people are going to post photos in this thread cause they are too busy arguing. [:-^]

I don’t have any pictures.

I do!

Update on the peninsula scenery:
I had the better part of Saturday to fool around in the train room, and this is what I got accomplished.

It’s a little crowded, but there’s plenty of ops, and when the full layout is built, I can spread out the scenes a lot more. You can see the scenic divider in the middle.

Here’s the coal mine branch more or less in place…

In the temporary arrangement, the branch on the far right is a short line to a coal tipple. In the permanent design, that will close a loop to allow continuous running for display purposes on the Thomas Sub. The track leaves the mainline in the upper left corner of the frame, coming in from the left.

Here you can see the branch more or less in its entirety. It hugs the scenic divider, then splits into two tracks at the tipple.

I’ve seen photos of the coal tipple at Fairmont, WV, which is in the midst of a developed area. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it! The scene is part of the temporary scenery, so it’s purpose is more operational than anything else…

I hate that building, but for an interim source of coal traffic, it’ll have to do!

Here is another “railfanning” spot that is part of the new work…

This should turn into a good spot for photos…

Absolutely breathtaking!
