Good morning from partly cloudy and warm Northeast Ohio!
Looks like I am first this morning, did not a get a lot done this week so more in progress pictures.
First up is a Branchline 40’ 1944 AAR Boxcar Kit, that is fully assembled and ready for painting and lettering as a postwar NYC boxcar.
Another 4 bay NSC Cylindrical Covered Hopper kit, this one with round hatches that will be painted in either Potacan or Cominco Fertilizers colors. I have installed the brake gear and am in the process of installing the roof walk supports.
I did manage to finish one car this week, and IMRC 50’ Double Door PS1 Boxcar kit. I made the 6’ plug door from a Front Range 7’ Door to match the prototype and then scrounged a 9’ YSD from the scrapbox to fill the 15’ opening. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and Black paints and then lettered with decals from Greg Komar. This car was built in 1964 to replace old wood side cars and per the loadings of the ACY were probably used for moving tires from the Firestone and Goodyear plants to various final auto assembley plants or for the loading of wood products. the wide opening would facilitate the use of forklifts for loading.
Rick … Thanks for beginning Weekend Photo Fun … I like seeing your work in progress with the 40’s boxcar and the covered hopper… The ACY boxcar looks very good.
Terry … Nice work so far with the speeder.
I finally got a “round tuit” with some projects this week. Somehow, I never had time to do several projects in the Train Room. One is to replace flourescent light fixtures with LED fixtures. Several months ago I did a couple of them, and liked it. I replaced more of them this week, and only have four of the thirteen remaining to be replaced.
Another postponed project was three Waltehrs cars in my Empire Builder needed grab irans and handrails installed as well as lettering for car numbers and names.
Last night I completed that project. The cars are a baggage / Dorm, a sleeper, and an observation.
I am testing Distributed Power Unit operation on a 3% winding grade. The two leading units are Scale Trains SD40-3 and the mid one is a Rapido Dash 8-40CM. The block trains consist of 10 Walthers Tri-Level Auto Carrier plus 6 Atlas articulated Auto Carrier. The test went perfectly on the MFM Trois-Rivieres Quebec layout except for the road crossing bell which I tripped by error.

Rick: I love seeing people’s Work In Progress photos. I love assembling those boxcar kits. Your finished boxcar also looks very good as all your work does.
One of my favorite boxcars. This A-OK 50’ paper service boxcar is a custom painted Walthers paper service boxcar. I bought this from a fellow on another forum.
Thanks Rick for starting off WPF. Thats a good looking boxcar.
Terry - The speeder is coming along. Hope it works out. I’ll have to copy your ideas.
Garry - Good looking passenger cars.
Jack - A good looking layout and a good video too. Didn’t appear to be any problem with the distributed power.
Kevin - Nice flatcars.
Brakie - Good looking special purpose boxcar.
Jimmy - Nice rough and tumble car carrier.
Mike - The roundhouse looks like quite an involved project. Looking good so far.
Works in progress. I numbered E-7 #4034 some time ago, but just got around to doing the same to its running mate #4032 and the Jade Green E-8. Not hard work but tedious.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Interesting items being shown this week! Thanks to all.
I can show two recently completed projects. One is an IHC Pacific where it was stripped and a few detail improvements added; i.e., handrails, bell, generator, whistle, new headlight plus number boards. A real learning experience, especially with my airbrush. The DCC aspect included a LokSound Select micro, a KA4 Keep Alive and a Tang Bend speaker module. The disappointment is somewhat jerky running. I think there is an issue with the siderods on one side.
The other project is the FA1 A/B set. These are unused LifeLike items that got LokSound Select plus dual 13x18mm CUI speakers in a decent size enclosure. I’m very happy with the sound.
Mike: I wanted to post a comment on that amazing roundhouse you are assembling. It is very impressive, and from the pictures the craftsmanship is top notch. Well done!
Kevin: Thanks for the kind words. The roundhouse is a terrific kit…pretty much idiot-proof.Everything fits exactly like it should. Their turntable kit was the same way. If I can just keep from gluing my fingers together,it should be a great addition to the layout. I’m hoping Ed will have some updates on his roundhouse soon…I want to see how he handles the interior lighting.
Very nice job on the TOFCs,btw.
Everyone, thanks for your contributions.I particularly like Terry’s speeder, the LEDs look great!
Lighter than usual turnout this week, people must be busy with summer activities.
