Weekend Photo Fun March 24-26

OK fellow modelers let’s see what you’ve got!

Here are some Bethgons I painted and lettered for CSX, the scheme is referred to as “Confederate Gray”:

Here is a link to view of a prototype car:

It’s interesting how the coal dust “outlines” the braces and other outermost surfaces as a result of the car being laid on its side in the rotary dumper.

Nice work Ken.

Here are a few photos of Gloetown Junction.

Good job Ken. I might even take a picture this weekend. Not much to see though. I’m in an uninteresting phase.

Ken - nice backdrop. Simple in concept yet very convincing.

I might go to the LHS tomorrow. I won’t have time to paint another FP7 if I buy one. If I go; I’ll let y’all know what I got.

I’m going to be running in a large operating session at a club tomorrow. I’ll be sure to get some pics!

Ken, as always, your work is a joy to view.

Thanx, guys, for all the kind words!

Luc - how’s business in that sugar factory, is it booming in anticipation of the upcoming Easter holiday?

Chip - sorry to hear there aren’t any trains where you’re at. I can’t wait to see you get some shots with that new SLR you got recently, I miss Mongo…

Thanx CA, I can’t take credit for that idea though - I learned it from cheese3 who says he saw that technique watching a guy named Bob Ross on public television.

Kevin - any new houses being built in your hilltop “neighborhood”? I’m sure I’ll be seeing some fine-looking stuff from you here on Sunday!

Well if you’ll excuse me gentlemen, I have ~25 coal loads to scratchbuild for varying sizes/types of coal cars (can’t afford those overpriced Chooches…).

I took this last week in White city Ore.CORP W/hoppers heading for the Certainteed roofing plant.I hope to be able to get close next time this is an every day trip For CORP

I think that is true of most good backdrops. To me, the backdrop should simply suggest that there is more there without actually drawing the eye to it. That keeps the viewers eyes focused on the foreground.

Ken and others,

I know you have been wondering why, with my new camera and all, you haven’t seen many photos of my layout. Well, it’s been that there hasn’t been much to see. In late October, I decided I didn’t like the way the EZ track looked in relation to buildings. Rolling stock was was constantly 1/4 inch higher than the building and passenger loading docks. So I set about fixing it. The layout is now at the proper height. And looks like this. (I adjusted the color in my image program because my camera makes everything very red. I am told I can color adjust it to a white sheet, but i haven’t taken the time.)

While the major work cannot be seen some of the minor stuff can be. In this shot, you can see several things. The track is now ballasted. The upper track getting the iron ore color that matches the red rock in the landscape and the lower level the grey to match the rocks in the lower level. The tunnel portals and retaining walls are also new.

In this shot, you see the roughed out scenic divide coming in on the left, the large tunnel portal, and the base coat of the hardshell between the track levels–the grade up and down from Train City to Rock Ridge. Above the portal is shaped foam.

The current hold-up is that i want to plant the rock relief into the drywall coat so there are no gaps between the rock and the base. Since it is easier to paint the rock off the layout than on, I have a lot of painting to do.

The way things are going. I see another month before trains will run again on the layout.

nice Chip. I made the DCC jump and have not had time to take pics. I am working on the logging camp and the Gids made me some more tall pine., but DCC dominates my nightmares.

cool photos guys… it really give me insperations looking through your stuff.

Heres one from my layout. I figured i needed a few more photos before i went back to school so set up some trains for a shoot. Not enough sceenery is done, but i guess thats the plan for this summer =)

Actually had a weekend project this time besides working on benchwork. With a tip from another modeller friend of mine, I decided to build a small diorama that would also serve some other purpose besides looks. This is the track I use to check coupler heigth etc. The small tick marks on the wood base are car lengths in inches. I will mark these with NMRA car weigth. That was the tip [^]

so, im getting a bunch of work done this weekend, my trackwork in the yard is layed, wired, and painted. but, i didnt have any tape, so i got to wait till tommorow so i can get some more tape, then im going to put down my gravel and balast. so the whole yard will be done tommorow. with the exception of one track length that goes to the turntable, and sections where im putting buildings, cause i dont have the them yet, but i should get them during the next 2 weeks for my bday

woo only 8 days!

i like the new rs-? I just got

Mouse, that is highly improbable! Nothing about you and your hobbies is uninteresting.

I have been working on a Campbell Scale Models kit that will become “Thompson Tiles” maker of quality farm drainage tiles.

The first new bemchwork is taking shape in the new room addition of the layout:

OK, this is my first attempt ( swear on my father’s grave) at detailing and weathering a structure. I would like opinions and critiques (be honest). If you think I can improve on my results please tell me. BTW if you recognize the structure its a Bachmann Plasticville snap together. I figured if I was gonna ruin something, best be a cheapie ! [:)]
