My new toy , BLI RSD-15 sweet runner.

My week long project Bus and Bus depot, been at it all week and now detailing time this weekend.

O.K. how’s this[:D][:D]

How’s this…

Work in progress. You may notice a roudhouse. That is being restored and where the roundhouse is, there are now two locomotive facility tracks.

Still a work in progress.

My attention has been on my new train building. The old layout is (sadly) being
taken down. I will be starting the new layout sometime this summer. I am still
tweaking the track plan, but it will be a double decker. The two levels will be connected
with a nolix, making two trips around the perimeter of the building, behind the backdrop.
Here’s a couple of pictures showing the progress of the building. Good luck. Dave

Gappleg did you use a West End Market kit by City Classics for you bus terminal??Sure looks similar. If so that is a great idea!!Whered ya get the bus,and would it be appropiate for the 1950’s?I’ve got the West End Market kit ,its pretty bare, but should look good with some help.I picked up a set of grocery carts with groceries from Preiser. Thanks for the pics,it gives me inspiration and ideas.
Lookin’ good everybody!
UPDATE: I patched my 2-8-0 for CGW. Pics sometime this weekend.
Hi Guys Great Pics! Just doing alittle more tree work heres the latest

Carl…

Had to fini***he bridge this week to get the main line laid this weekend. First try at water it was definately a learning experience. Those Woodland Scenic people make everything look to easy.
Cool trees Carl

This thread is always so inspirational. Really great ideas and really, really good work.
Been working slowly at construction of the lower deck; 14" below these pics. I have my cork and got a partial shipment of the switches I need to start laying the lower yard. Decided I better get that backdrop finished before putting the lower deck down and it becomes difficult to reach.
First attempt at trees. Using a very small stipple brush. These are suppose to be mesquite … still have some work to do on them as I’m not quite satisfied.

Dave9999, a question about your train building. In the first pic a pair of angled 2x4’s are visible on the gable endwall, and above that there appears to be OSB roof decking. If that’s roof deck showing, then those are probably rafters, not a set of scissor trusses, holding up the main roof.
This is important, because what the few visible clues are telling me indicate that you may run into problems with the roof system down the line. I’m not seeing any ceiling joists, no collar ties, nothing like a lam beam or microlam used for the ridge, and no prop (which should carry all the way down to concrete in a perfect world) under the ridge.
If this building is connected to another, say the house, it is possible that there is a beefy ridge sitting on a prop out of sight behind a gable partition, but if not, you may run into trouble down the road. With a minimal ridge, one not strong enough to carry it’s own weight, plus half the entire set of rafters, plus half the roof decking, felt and shingles, there is nothing to prevent the wall ends of the rafters from spreading. This can and will put a curve in the two walls the rafters rest on, in your exterior fascia or gutterboard, and a sag in the roof. In a worst case scenario, the roof itself could fail.
If there is a beefy ridge up in there, or engineered trusses, or any other structural components that will keep the rafters from spreading at the base of the triangle they form, please disregard this post.
If what I see is all that is up there, I’d whack a 2x6 about 3/4" longer than the distance from concrete floor to bottom of ridge, and curve/wedge it up under that ridge, at least one prop per ten feet of ridge. If the floor of the building is not concrete, I’d want the bottom of that prop directly on a joist within one foot of a concrete pier or steel beam girder, or else spread the load out across several joists by laying a 2x6 flat on the floor first.
Then with the ridge eyeball straight, (and the gutterb
Jeffers,
I see what you are saying. And you’re right, the time to correct it is now, and it’s not that expensive a fix. That is, like you said, there’s something we don’t see in the pics.
Jeffers,
Wow…
First let me say that yes the building has collar ties… that is where the flat ceiling came from.
Second, this is a portable building… nothing more, nothing less. I work in construction and
agree with your observations 100%… if this were a room addition or a permanent structure.
The building had to be build with weight as a consideration. Also, the building is a mere 12’
wide and I walk on the roof with no give. Thanks for the critique, but I had already taken these
issues under consideration. Good luck, Dave
Whew![:D]
[#offtopic]I thought this was about model train pictures not some one’s construction problems on a building.
The DCC is in. WOW. It works and was WAY less problem than I thought. Most of the trouble was where I knew the DC needed work. Can run two trains at once. Will try three when the other throttle comes. Also got around to some facia boards.

Also worked on the logging camp. Still needs more trees, underbrush, people, water and trash, but is making progress.

Okay…
Let’s see your model train pictures…
Dave,
Look up spring pictures 06 for a taste.
and your building is your building and looks to a great place to start a new layout at.[^]
Good deal, Dave. Portable eh? I could put some of those to work. Will look into the idea, thanks.
Chip, thx for chiming in.
Tom, sorry to harsh your buzz, but I put safety above most else. Odds of that changing are pretty slim.

Well with it being almost done its a little late for that isn’t it.
