Weekend Photo Fun May 2 - 4, 2025

Gosh, doesn’t seem that long ago that magazines and catalogs were pretty much the only way to see good Model Railroading photos, now we can just click on WPF. So, let’s get the good times rolling with WPF. Regards, Peter

Thanks for starting this weeks WPF, Peter. Stunning modelling as usual.

Two locomotives awaiting numberplates.

Grandson’s diesel is out and joining the fleet.

Peter, once again you set the bar very high for realistic photos from your layout. Thanks for the inspiration!

Another kit that sat on the shelf for a long time. It’s mostly finished except for (again) adding the usual junk and clutter that a real place usually has. I also need to clean up the bottom of the building and replace the clunky railing. It can wait.

This locomotive was my first ever On30 build, from a Boulder Valley Models kit and a HO diesel chassis. It’s been sitting in a display cabinet for a few years, as it wouldn’t run properly. Just recently, I had another look at it.

After raising the body a bit higher on the chassis and adding a keepalive, it now works well. I’ve also added some extra detailing on the front.

Probably should have used this photo for FEF, but here we go. Here’s one of my newest acquisitions, original Norfolk Southern Ry. GP38 No. 2007. For the different eras that I run from time-to-time, anything pre-1974 requires this gray NS scheme. I had the red NS scheme on a Baldwin, which was cool, but that scheme had been pretty much discontinued as of even my earliest era of 1967. So, I sold that locomotive and used the funds to buy this twenty-four year-old Atlas model. I’d been looking for this for a long time and feel lucky to grab it. It was in very good condition, and I was able to rectify the minor issues caused by a previous owner. I also added a LokSound decoder on a Decoder Buddy and LED lights.

Excellent scene there, Peter! Perfect perspective on the interior. Thanks for starting off another fine WPF :sunglasses:

David has some excellent modifications going on your ‘Thomas’ locos! John, are those guys pulling taffy in the doorway?

Your gas pump island looks great, Jimmy. Sheetz colors?

Excellent detail in your scene, Danny!

I applaud all Passenger operations, BN Guy! I was fortunate to have ridden the Super Chief once and even had dinner in the Turquoise Room!

Great scene, asardaro! A fellow NYC fan. I like your little swamp there. Perfect trackwork, too.

Perfect wooded scene there, too, Dave! Those trees look great and remind me that I really have to devote more time to treemaking.

This week I have completed the tedious task of installing and wiring 114 little light fixtures to the underside of the passenger platform canopies at Union Station! Whew!

This is a lot of work for only what could be considered ‘minimal’ improvement but one main feature is the elimination of the old grain-of-wheat bulbs (the only choice in 1999) as this photo shows:

Now there will be a more-to-scale LED between each upright and certainly more photogenic.

Cheers, Ed

Indeed it is a Sheetz. The Wheeling passes by one on the mainline and this stretch has been nicknamed “CP Sheetz”, since the crews have atopped to get food

WPF always brightens my weekend.

David, To my mind that’s a very special loco joining your fleet with lots-o fun ahead.

John, You’re too kind. Maybe it’s just me who sees a bit of Hopper-esque in the fish market shot. Btw, Love your ‘Nighthawks’ scene, and good to see a languishing kit come to life upon your layout.

Jimmy, 3D designing and printing is a boon to modeling, and looks like you’ve got a handle on it.

Gosh tbdanny, What a swell looking and unique loco, fits beautifully into your longing layout era. The weathered wood and nut & bolt castings help add a lot of character to the model.

NewBNguy, Oh yeah! Warbonnets, ’Santa Fe’ All The Way’.

asardaro, Liking your Fairbanks-Morse, looks good pulling on the club layout.

DFF, Those trees are great, nice loco too.

Hey Ed, Good you’ve got the gumption to change out those bulbs, no doubt your new lighting is gonna’ look good and like Fonzie; be cool.

Thanks to all the contributors and viewers. Have a good week ahead. Regards, Peter
