WPF time again. Hoping to see lots of what all you Model Railroading shutterbugs have captured.
Doesn’t seem that a decade has passed since my son made this treasured contribution to my layout from a thousand miles away; a customized version of Downtown Deco’s Bingo’s Pool Hall. While his arts and crafts have taken different directions, he still maintains an interest in Model Railroading, loves making pizza and spending time with his nephews.
A link to a project i did but didnt share last weekend- i installed bidirectional leds lights for turnouts to help with me earning the Electrical AP certificate from the nmra
Thanks for the early june WPF, Peter! Looks like Uncle Dan needs to come up with some gimmicks to draw a few customers in!
I shifted gears after my Union Station platform project and got a painting ‘chore’ out of the way. Came across this Pennsy F49 well car a while back and finally got some Scalecoat Freight Car Color on it:
Some nice details hidden from view. Probably a good thing since that brake cylinder doesn’t belong there! The cylinders were integral with the truck bolster
Many years ago, I used an LED that was a Red & a Green packaged in together so that the two were connected in opposite directions. If I applied a DC voltage in one direction, Red was the result, opposite polarity gave Green, while an AC voltage produced an orange/yellow!!
John, I’m a Hitchcock movie fan, but even if I weren’t I’d still like your iconic scene, also like the lighted motel sign.
Jimmy, those bi-color LEDs are space savers for sure.
Ah yes David, as always, enjoying your layout.
Nice custom work Heathmiester, those handrails give an extra good look to the model. Also, some interesting track maintenance equipment.
asardaro, good to see you having a ball with your trains, especially the switching.
As is said; “Track is a model too,” and tompmrr’s looks good, not to mention those GP’s and water tower.
Ed, Appears those trucks hold some nice heft. The well car and massive machinery load are certainly nice, but I sure like those loaded shelves sitting against the building.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers. Have a good week ahead. Regards, Peter
These are from Artitec and I bought them when they were still plentiful (and fairly reasonable!). They’re too nice to stuff into an unseen interior! Check out their work benches, too!
Thanks Ed, Sure enough, super detail & weathering right outta’ the box is not inexpensive and made to be seen. The guy with his lunchbox is a nice touch, just like my grandfather and father before me I carried a lunchbox to work, until the dawn of the mini-cooler.
Regards, Peter
The Seaboard Coast Line (SCL) U30C, shown here, had a terrible grinding noise in the driveline in right hand turns brand-new out of the box. I sent in a warranty claim but, after one call from the manufacturer, which I unfortunately couldn’t take at the time, none of my attempts over a few weeks to return the call received any response. Several months later, I was frustrated and just decided to dig in for myself, since I had little to lose.
Long story short, I tore the entire locomotive apart carefully and finally found a tiny “pimple” of plastic on the side of the gearbox in the rear truck that was in just the right spot to catch the side of the axle gear’s teeth when the wheelset was pushed to that side (like in right hand turns). I carefully shaved off that blip of plastic, made sure the gearbox was clear of debris, and put the locomotive back together. Fixed! Nice. Oh, and Atlas unfortunately made the pilot stripes yellow on this release, so I stripped them and redecaled the pilots with the proper white stripes.
With that, SCL U30C No. 2123 finally joined the fleet. I had listed Union Pacific U28C No. 2806 for sale a few weeks ago at a really attractive price, but, thankfully, it didn’t sell and can rejoin the fleet to run with No. 2123. I unpacked it, reinstalled Sergent Engineering couplers, downloaded the ESU sound file I had used before putting it up for sale (custom settings and speed matched), and MUed it to No. 2123. Now, I can do this, as run through UP, SP, and Frisco power was sometimes seen on the SCL trains.
