Another weekend is here for all of us to enjoy! I hope everyone is well and happy.

I finished a stalled boxcar project this week. This is another one that I had put off finishing because I thought the lettering looked too modern for 1954.

It is done now, and it does not look as out of place as I once thought it did.

The model is a Life-Like Proto-2000 automobile boxcar. This one does not have end doors. The trucks and couplers are, or course, Kadee.

That is my contribution to start the thread. I look forward to lots of contributions again this weekend.

Thank you for another great November start to another fine WPF, Kevin.

After a week or more of 70°+ days we are back to a “seasonal” 35-45 or so in NE Ohio. Great Model RR weather.

I think your lettering is fine for mid-'50s and that’s a nice slogan, too. I love those Life-Like Proto kits. When I need a break from other chores, I’ll grab one of those off the shelf and have-at-it. They are superbly detailed for their day!

Kevin- Good to see you back and posting, hope your computer is working ok.

Ed- I’ve been following your progress with that little scene, it’s coming along quite nicely.

David- That’s a neat backdrop building.

I haven’t done much this past couple weeks, I’ve been thinking about tearing down my layout and starting over, and I’ll post a seperate thread about that soon. Good morning from mostly sunny and cool Northeast Ohio!

Kevin, thanks for starting us out, nice looking boxcar it fits the time period, there were many postwar changes in lettering at that time.

Ed, you are another person that gets a lot done in a hurry, nice looking scene with the gooseneck lamps.

David, good looking scene, it is a amazing how much English modelers can get in a small area.

Harrison, nothing wrong with changing your layout, it will all be for the better, round robin club I belonged to in Toledo, one member had a new layout started every time we visited his house.

I managed to finish a couple of cars this week:

Atlas (Ex-Branchline) 1944 AAR Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Oxide Red and lettered with Champ and other decals (Repack Data). After the war the railroads replaced their worn out cars with new improved cars. This was a 1959 Lot of 40’ cars used in general service.

Athearn ACF 4600CF Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. This car #10399 was the guniea pig for new paint schemes on this class of cars, it was first painted gray with black lettering, then brown with white lettering (then 2 other cars were in this scheme that we know of), and in 1979 when the compass herald was going to be dropped the DT&I painted one car in each class with the Star Herald, the only class of cars that received the herald were the 50’ FGE RBL’s with the offset doors that were in Campbells Soup service. The herald was a scothcal and were very expensive so not all cars received this herald.

Ed: Thank you for commenting on my boxcar. I only have a few sets of custom decals that have lower case lettering. I like the way it looks too now that the car is done. The lit-up picture of the night scene on your layout looks great. That is effort very well spent.

David: The work on that small scene is going to be excellent I am sure. That building with the fire escape is just the perfect amount of run-down to have incredible charm.

HBrowling: It is great to see a new person sharing in weekend Photo Fun. WELCOME! Your enginehouse scene is beautiful. That is excellent work everywhere, but the weathering on the cement is incredible.

Harrison: Seeing the progress in the dated photographs of your layout is interesting. Your high school layout has turned out much better than mine did.

Rick: I love the lettering on the PITTSBURG & LAKE ERIE boxcar you shared this week. I have saved that photo in my “Ideas” folder. The roadname on the right in condensed lettering with the slogan on a slant underneath it will be duplicated on a boxcar in my fleet one day. Those Rapido F units are absolutely beautiful in that scene on the club layout.

Garry: Your layout is so impressive in photographs. The way it is laid out has allowed you to capture some beautiful sweeping scenes like mostly N scale modelers can do. What a masterpiece.

Thanks for starting this weekend off with that nice boxcar kevin! Glad to see you back at it. I too love the P2K kits

Ed- Thats a great looking scene. I like the night shot with the lights. Thats one thing I still need to get around to.

David- Nice job on the backdrop! Adds some more life to the layout!

HBrowling- Thats a really nice looking scene! Love the detail!

Harrison- I too feel the need to start over at times. That truck looks a little familiar!

Rick- Great looking cars as always. I like those F units! Good looking scene too!

Garry- Union station is looking busy!

Simon- The coaling tower looks great!

This week I got some practice in wih super trees and aquired some new rolling stock and a long time want: A SOO line GP38-2 bandit. I patched my SOO mp15 for WSOR and missed having one for soo, so I bought another!

Here are the hoppers I bought off someone local who had built and weathered them. Was too good of a price and I’m a sucker for anything WSOR

Also got most of the facia up, Just waiting to finish the river before I add the remaining peice there. I just need to figure out the angle to cut it so it matches the banks without hiding them.

Theres minor adjustments to be made and I still need to cover the screw holes.

Looking forward to another weekend of great content and hopfully Ill have more trees to share by sunday!

Simon: The bunker in your coal tower is massive! It looks very good.

Ringo: Your layout is looking better and better all of the time. The fascia sure makes it look clean and neat.

An overall view of Clarence Dock

Agnes Marston is just going to the local store with her dog ‘Prince’ leading. It is 1970s dogs did not have to leads to keep them close to their owners.

The car is a Hillman Imp. Charlie Marston must have made a sale at the scrap yard. [:)]

Across the road from the Marston’s house , Joe Johnson’s fence is in need of repair. I shall have to make a little cameo of him repairing it.

HBrowling, Good looking scene, guessing those are Lima Locos?

Rick, The ceiling high background mountains with your FP9s emerging from the tunnel and crossing the viaduct is really sharp.

Garry, Always enjoy the grandeur and action of your Union Station.

Ringo, I like how a facia helps frame and draw the eye to the layout.

Get a kick out of the Real Cold, Solid Gold and The Chiller cars. Gave this one light weathering, mostly panel line/pin washes, MIG pigments/white spirits treatment and some Pan Pastels.

HBrowling, welcome to Weekend Photo Fun. This thread is the best on the forum, and I hope you can continue to give us more pictures of your layout. I like your lighting and the concrete work!

Harrison, isn’t it fun to look at pictures from the start of the layout up to now? Progress is slow, but before and after pictures show how much work is done. I’ve also been considering a new layout, or at least major changes to this one.

Rick, that’s a great picture of the FP9s. I love passenger trains, and yours crossing the bridge looks neat.

Garry, I love your city scenes. I think I’ve mentioned before that I really like your backdrops. They seem to be just right to give the illusion of depth to the layout.

Ringo, your tree looks very real. I have tried to get the same effect, but mine never look as good as yours came out. I think I put too much foliage on mine. Nice work on the fascia.

Peter, the Real Cold car and the building behind it look very realistic. You have a good eye for making models look real.

We have been out of town, so I haven’t gotten any work done this week. This is a photo of my attempt at a chemical plant. The building is Rix and the railings-stairs are Tichy, but the rest is my first attempt at scratch building. There are some things I would change, but they are on hold while I consider some major layout changes.
