Sweet. Nice progress on the layout. Is that Front Range as in Joint Line?
I’m a D&RGW fan who started out interested in the late 80’s - early 90’s period, but just can’t countenence trains without cabooses and want the RGZ to be part of the mix, so I’ve back dated about 10 years so I could have cabooses, RGZ, 40 TOFC trains, lots of colorful per diem box cars and fallen flag cars were common from NP, GN, CB&Q, NYC, PRR etc.
I expect you being from Golden, you’ll need to have lots of PC&F beer cars from Eel River and ExactRail! They were usually at the head end of hot shots heading west up the Front Range.
The Colorado Front Range Railroad (my version anyway) is a fictional joint venture between the BN and Rio Grande set in the '80s to do the local traffic in the Denver Metro area, more specifically the Beer line out to Golden, which then interchanges with Rio Grande/ BN at North Yard/36th street Yard. Since the beer line is actually BN trackage, I needed a way to justify running Rio Grande equipment on it. I will also have some BN locos and some CFRR equipment as well. See below.
In this case I have the beer line out to Golden as the primary focus of the layout with a short segment of the “Main line” which goes North and South which allows me to also serve what was the Conoco (now Suncor) refinery. The upper deck of the center peninsula of the layout is dedicated to the Coors Brewery. I grew up around Golden so I would like to model a significant portion of the brewery.
