“Creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky.” And time for Weekend Photo Fun. Have a safe Happy Halloween and Dia de los Muertos! Regards, Peter
Thanks for starting us out this weekend Peter!
Here is what I managed to complete this last week.
First another 40’ Trailer to populate my DT&I Rail Blazer a dedicated TOFC run from Detroit to Cincinnati. Trailer is an old Athearn Blue Box that I modified to remove the FGE prototype items and end up with a plain jane trailer. I got these prepainted off of E-Bay so all I had to do was remove some stuff, patch up the paint then decal with Highball Graphics Decals.
Next a Bowser 1958CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray paint and lettered with Highball Graphics Decals. The Annie first used these for hauling cement out of the Dundee Michigan cement plant then they gravitated to the sand trains out of Yuma Michigan where the Annie supplied at least 20 loads a day forwarded to the Ford Engine Casting Plant in Brook Park Ohio.
Last week I received my Broadway Limited PRR L1 2-8-2, so I tried it out on a general freight running on the Strongsville Club Layout. From pictures I have seen the depressed center cars with loads were often sandwiched between a couple of gondolas. The engine handled the 30 car freight on the grades with no problems.
Have a great weekend.
Rick Jesionowski
Peter Thanks for starting this weeks spooky WPF.
Spooky as I cannot see Rick’s pictures.
The Ghost of Sovereign Street
A little running session this late afternoon.
Kirkstall & East Seacroft Railway passenger train with ‘Titan’ in charge
I’ve finished off the On30 SW9 build. It’s ready to go into service. So now I’m updating the Arduino that handles the locomotive dispatching to include it. Making a few other tweaks to operations, too.
Hello again and welcome NOVEMBER! Thanks for the kickoff of the WPF, Peter. Excellent contributuions this weekend.
I spent a little time to get my Amtrak, former NYC Diner off the workbench and into diner service for the hungry peeps…
Last week was complete disassembly and ‘fading’ of the New York Central lettering:

I often saw these cars come through Cleveland on the Lake Shore Limited and, yes, you could make out New York Central on the letterboard when the light was just so.
Then it was on to purple and orange interior colors and I remembered the orange end doors, a Phase I hallmark:

The decals were old and crumbly but I persevered… The end results were satisfactory:

I numbered the car Amtrak 8336 which was the NYC 466, a car I dined in several times ‘pre-Amtrak’. Hard to imagine that was 55 years ago!
Cheers, Ed
It works everywhere else and originally worked when I first posted it???
Rick
I’m afraid I still can’t see examples of your fine modelling, Rick.
Am I the only one??
Cheers, the unseeing Bear. ![]()
No, Bear. I cannot see any pictures either.
I can’t see them, gorramn it!
Thankyou for another WPF, Peter.
I’ve not much to offer this week except a good deal of work on my layout. Here are a couple of ‘before and after’ photos. The Cork Track-bed for the Passing-siding now extends right around the backwall, to the opposite corner of the room.
‘Before’: pre-filling and painting;
‘After’: post-filling + 2 coats of Homebase ‘Flintstone’ grey Emulsion;
A coat of paint can often work marvels. I used to see this in the Fab-shop, the welded and angle-ground, drilled or machined Fabrications of Mill Steel Profiles would be transformed under a fresh coat of Primer.
It is useful because it highlights any irregularities that can be sorted before the 2nd coat of paint is applied - as it did here, but also - it can help hide them too.
Paul.
Glad that ‘falling back’ didn’t keep Weekend Photo Fun from moving forward.
Darn, wish your pics had loaded Rick, hopefully the bugs will be worked out.
Nice and eerie David, that your ghost has been haunting your layout for such a long time is heartening. Also, good to see ‘Titan’ at the point.
tbdanny, Like your custom SW9 and glad to see it entering service on your railroad.
Ed, Nothing like having such a fine model of the car you were aboard and dined in back in the day.
tompmrr and Simon’s RF&P and CN action shots are fun to see. Oh, and Paul’s tracks ahead and tracks behind.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers. Have a good week ahead. Regards, Peter
