Some of you may recall the Kato business car that I had experimented with some Alclad2 refinishing…
Well, I continued this week with some wiring as I waited for the 4 function decoder to arrive.
One of the features I installed was a pair of track inspection flood lights under the rear platform.
Mike, you would be interested to know that those housings are actually O scale Galloping Goose tail lights from Grandt Line.
The stainless steel color of Alclad is just a tad dark on this car and on my other project, the PRR twin unit diners I re-stripped them and went with the brighter chrome finish. You folks will see that next weekend.
Here’s a shot of the PRR business car #1000 the ex- Adolphus built by the Wabash in their shops.
The Kato car is a pretty close rendition.
I believe I have to tone-down those track-lights. Fortunately, the roof is easily removable on this Kato car and I can get to the resistor very easily.
The tiny TF4 Digitrax decoder allows me to operate the lighting independently [Y]

Gearing up for the Reading Modeler’s Meet in Hamburg PA, next weekend in which I will be doing a clinic, also getting some more scenery done. The rocks are pine bark mulch.
Some good modeling here already. Here’s what I’ve finished this week, the final addition to my roster:
It started as a Bachmann On30 2-4-4-2 (https://hattonsimages.blob.core.windows.net/products/29003BAC_1468946_Qty1_1.jpg). The cab, side tanks and fuel bunker are 3D printed, with the deck at the front built from styrene and copper wire.

Good start to the weekend gentlemen, I compliment all of you for some great modeling!
Another Standard Kadee 50’ PS1 Boxcar, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Herald King Decals. Another member of the 1962 Class of PS1 boxcars repainted in the 70’s. Needed these to tone down the colors of the rest of the DT&I Fleet.
Walther NAAC 50’ Smooth Side RBL kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Floquil Platinum Mist paints, then lettered with Detail Associates decals. Car was built in 1964 and was one of a group that was assigned to the WP but may have never worn WP paint as they were transfered to the SP with NADX reporting marks. I could have done one of the group the WP did own, but I could not find and IX in yellow with the proper font for the WPIX cars assigned to the WP.
Just received a group of Trainworx 40’ Trailers made by Brown for use on my piggyback trains. Nice to have some trailers other than Freuhauf etc.

Ed … Great job with the Kato buisness car. It is a CB&Q prototype, and I did not need to change mine. I also have one lettered for Northern Pacific which is not prototypical, but I’m happy with it too. … I wish Kato made more HO passenger cars because their business car is very well made.

Thank you. Those are old Like Like Proto 2000 8,000 gallon tank cars. Thank heaven I bought 8 of the undecorated cars when they were new, because they are impossible to find now. I have three more painted, waiting on decals.

I’m familiar with most of the “Q’s” business car fleet. I got to tour the Topeka shops after the BNSF merger and I was like a kid in a candy RR shop. There were probably fifty or more business cars there. I don’t recall if the “Burlington” was one of them.
Every time one comes up in brass I try to convince myself that I “need” one but, as I say, the Kato is a close stand in for the Adolphus/PRR 1000/Amtrak 10000.
I agree with you on the Kato passenger cars. I have a bunch of their C&NW bi-level commuter cars. They are engineered beautifully.
Wouldn’t it be the one made of brick? “I’ll huff, and I’ll puff…” Oh, wait. That was three pigs [D)] I’m getting my childhood scary-tales mixed up!

I just finished re motoring a Rivarossi 0-6-0
with a can motor off ebay
and also installed a Version 4 TCS wow steam decoder
that runs smooth as silk right out of the box
TCS really has great BEMF control

My friend, Logan Holtgrewe volunteered to build a model for me. I asked him to build my grandparents farmhouse. This in a early photo when they bought the house. My mother is on the right. I do not remember it ever in such a run down condition, but there are only a couple photos of it in my whole family.
This is what he came up with.
