Weekend Photo FUN, the Jimmy Braum Birthday Special Edition!!

Gidday All, as it has been a tumultuous and tempestuous last few days for the US contributors, I thought that we could all unify by celebrating the recent 25th birthday of regular, Jimmy Braum.[bday]

So from the Bear, a few simple modifications and re-decaling of a Athearn BB flat car, only it took me a month of Sundays so far, and it still hasn’t been weathered!!!

Looking forward to the really Good Stuff,

Nice flat car Bear!

All the best!

Dave

Happy Remembrance; Armistice or Veteran’s Day to all who served! [bow]

Happy Birthday to you, Jimmy. You share a birthday with General George S. Patton? Quite an honor!

Thanks for unlocking another WPF, Bear! I certainly know what you mean about some projects seemingly taking forever… Nice work[Y]

For those of you following along at home, you may have seen some photos of the “forgotten corner” of my layout…

Before…

And as of 0400 Eastern Time:

I had a “Topping-Out” party, witness the single pine tree. (There should have been a flag, too [:S]) It was a difficult situation to deal with to try to hide the helix. At least there’s a view-break now.

On to more of the great stuff!

Regards, Ed

Hey Bear,

You are wishing Jimmy a happy 25th birthday, Jimmy signs his posts with the following:

(My Model Railroad, My Rules) These are the opinions of a 22 year old guy from the NS Mon Line.

Either he is behind in updating his threads or you’re advancing him in years. What’s the go Jimmy?

Hi Bear, Dave, Ed and Jimmy…[bday] ‘‘Happy Birthday’’…but now, I really feel old… My birthday was Wed. the 9th. no big deal for Me though…I’m only 49yrs. older than You Jimmy…WOW! Where did the time go???

I planned on having some new pic’s to share of some projects I have completed…but I had got sick…so…gotta get better first.

Take Care, All! [:D]

Frank

Well as my wife has been 39 for a number of years, and while I’ve got older but have not grown up, I guess its Jimmy’s right to make his own choice.[swg]
Get well soon Frank.
Cheers, the Bear.[:)]

Happy Birthday Jimmy, and to all of your who have served our various countries, have a great Veteran’s day.

Did not get anything done this week, due to other stuff being done this last week.

Here is a picture from the vault of old pictures!

Since it is a Holiday, I will throw in a picture of my DT&I Bi-Centennial #1776 with a Coil Steel Train.

See you all later!

Almost ready for my open house on the Houston Fall Layout Tour

Just a few more buildings to light

Wow, I guess I forgot to update my Signature lol. That’s fixed now lol

First off Bear, thank you for the thread and the name is really touching to me. As usual, a lot of nice work this week. I spent my birthday photographing the section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie I plan to eventually model, and I was rewarded with a photo of their crane, and a coke train later on in the day.

The Wheeling is like a box of chocolates, you never know WHAT you’re going to get. I think the sun worked with me in this shot- a nice thoughful “gift” the Wheeling “gave” me. [:P]

This week had me start and finish the first of two more Wheeling hoppers. Stripped the lettering and applied the decals from highball graphics. The result is shown below

Great photos so far. …

Jimmy: Happy birthday.

Below is a Baldwin switcher moving some sleepers at Union Station.

Happy Veteran’s Day to all who have or are serving. Thank YOU!

Here is a photo from the “Railroading Page” on my updated website:

New York Central Niagara #6008 is westbound at Pasture Curve with a mail and express train bound for Buffalo.

Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Happy Veteran’s Day and thanks to all who served. This photo reminds me of the many times I rode the PRR on liberty or leave in the mid 60’s.

Happy Birthday, Jimmy!

And slautes to our veterans on this day of rememberance.

Nice pics everyone. And congrats to Bear on finishing up that project, it’s a sharp-looking flatcar[:D]

This week didn’t see as much RR action as I hoped. I have focused on getting ready for my Golden Spike presentation at our local divisional meeting here on Saturday. The NMRA set up the GS as a sort of introduction to its Achievement Prograam (AP). It’s not everyone’s bag, but it does help your modeling by helping you focus on improving it. More info is here: http://www.nmra.org/golden-spike-award

Here are a few examples of my work that will be on display. First, one requirement is to display 8 square feet of basically completed and scenicked layout area. I chose the oldest part of the layout, Red Mountain, as it was a module I built prior to moving here. It’s a little larger than required and will see more changes, but here it is; the small dayglo card marker designates each example as I’m doing this in part to encourage other members by showing how easy this is once you’ve got a few things under your belt.

The Haymarket Tram is one of the 5 required structures. They have to be something more than a simple assembly of a basic kit. In this case, I bashed together 3 Grandt Silverton Ore Bin kits (not visible as on the far side), built a crib out of Grandt Cribbing sections, filled it with crushed rock crumbles from the Animas Forks area, built the headhouse for the tramway, and built-up an QAnvil Mountain Models tramway to serve the mine above. Totally freelance, it’s in the spririt of the San Juan mining tradition.

Diesels #64 and #100 are familiar to WPF readers. #64 is a brass PSC WP&Y DL-535 kit I built, detailed, a

Building up my HOn30 roster for the eventual limestone quarry for my eventual layout. Still have many details parts to add to all the models plus paint.

I don’t remember Mrs. Santa Clause looking like that. I think I would have remembered if she did.

Ya! I’d want her to sit on my lap instead of me sitting on Santa’s![(-D]

Dave

Bernd:

Nice start to the collection!

I’m assuming that the rail truck/trailer is scratch built and powered. How did you power it?

Dave

Mike:

Those are all great scenes! I’m sure you will do well in the Golden Spike awards.

Dave

Happy Veterans Day, many thanks and best wishes to all our Veterans.

Bear, Thanks for opening this special edition of WPF, nice flatcar, nice backdrop too.

Grampys Trains, Great scene and photo as always, but the vice-squad might be on the way to the station.

Thanks to all the contributors and regards, Peter

Dave,

I’ll start a new post so this thread doesn’t get hijacked.
