Weekend Photo Fun (WPF) June 10 - 12

Living on the other side of the Big Pond allows me to open this week´s WPF thread a little earlier than you folks!

Here is my contribution:

“JNR Mikado D51 498 emerges from Kibuneguchi tunnel on a run to Kurama on the Eiden Line”

The picture is taken on the second of my mini-modules, there are 8 more to come!

Ulrich,

What an outstanding photo! I’m glad you have your own layout back, your modeling skills are top notch.

Here’s a couple of shots of my new Colorado Ski Train.

Motley - I tell you a secret. I´d be happy to see one of my pictures published in the MR Trackside Photo section one day, but I don´t think I am good enough.

Here’s my newest addition.

Its a used Athearn SW1500 lettered for a freelance railroad.

Here’s a new one from me.

Here are last weeks completed cars.

This is the second 40’ 1937 AAR Boxcar by IMRC that I did for the New Haven using Highball Graphics Decals.

This is an E&C Models 50’ PS1 Boxcar, E&C is the latter version of the PS and is correct for this car. Details West Extended Coupler Pockets and lettered with Oddballs Decals.

This is an Atlas 23,000 Gal Tank Car lettered for the Sun Oil Co. using Herald King Decals.

Everybody, thanks for looking, and no rust on my railroad!

Great scenes & excellent curtom work already!! Great Job!

This is a Walthers Kasgro Depressed Center Flat car that I detailed & weathered. I added cut bars, train air lines, & a little plumbing. I also drilled out the tie-down points with a #70 drill. I weathered the deck by breaking the surface with used 240 paper, then lightly drybrushed silver in wear areas, followed by rust & grimy black powders. I airbrushed the underside of the truck areas for bottom weathering.
The pushing unit is an Athearn RTR Iowa Interstate GP38-2 with some added details & weathering.
From researching these units, I observed they are kept pretty clean & well maintained, so I tried not to over weather them. I have also seen IAIS moving Wind generator equipment, so a big load requiring this type of car may not be far fetched for them.

Awesome photos guys.

Brakie, is your diesel a nod to the Atlantic Coast Line?

Ulrich, in my opinion you have a cracking good image there showing a gread eye for both models and photography. [:D]

Ulrich, great photo, you should try submitting to MRR, your modelling and shots are just as good as much that gets published.

Robby, I really like your subtle weathering on the hopper. Really excellent, not overdone and very realistic.

Here are a couple of more shots from last weekends running session at K-10 in Maryville

plus a short movie on Youtube

Lots of modeling talent on display, this week.

I finished my scrap yard this week. DJ.

I laugh that you say almost finished because it’s very rare that you see a fraction of the detail that you put into your modelling efforts.

Mike,I believe the previous owner had ACL in mine when he decided on a paint scheme.

My thoughts was to strip and repaint this locomotive but,now I decided to keep her as she is since its a sharp looking engine.

Grampy, I love the addition to your already amazing layout. What’s funny to me is my favorite part of this shot is the tree. I like the variation in the leaves. Good work!

It is a sharp paint scheme. I’m keeping the Southern paint scheme on my Kato NW2 while putting on my own lettering.

You’re easily as good as many I’ve seen published.

John

And now, for something completely different. The picture I made for an avatar ends up a bit small, so I want to repost it here. I’m too pleased with how it turned out. It’s just a photoshopping, I crpped a picture of CMPA 3634 out and ran it through the “Watercolor” filter, adjusted its settings, and then played with color balance and shading to try to match it to the painting background. The original painting is of the Madison Incline, circe late 1800s sometime. Notice the guy in the lower left sitting on the stump, reading. In my little world, CMPA commisined a new picture, using the orignal as a template but including the diesel in place of the open cut to capture the heritage of the line.

For self-teaching Photoshop, I think it turned out nicely.

And yes, I’ll try to get something model train-y up here this weekend too.

Here is an ABB combo of my Wishram Oregon & Western F units heading westbound through Bridgeport on the Mt Hood RR club layout.[C):-)]

These 3-bay ACF CenterFlow Covered Hoppers are Accurail kits. They were custom painted prior to my purchase, I found them on eBay for $15.95 each. I installed Kadee #5 couplers and Intermountain metal wheels in place of the plastic ones that come in the kit. I assembled them today (not ready to weather them):
