OK I know i am early but i finnish work at noon, and this is when the weekend starts for me[:p][:D][:p]
I have not done anything on the layout but i did do some train watching today, i went to Preston were a new service is running into the Fina refinery, they get 3 trainloads of bitumen a week, the inbound arives at 5.30am (to early for me) but the outbound leaves at 1pm,
this is the train headed by class 60 no 063 crossing Strand Rd at Preston, not the best looking loco in the UK but with 200’000lbs of tractive effort available who cares
here it is about five miles down the road climbing the famous curve at Lostock Hall, here the line climbs up a loop and passes over it’s self
Two things I thought I’d never see on British railroads–a street-level crossing and a loop over itself. Wow, I’ve got to investigate British rail more thoroughly, Steve, LOL!
Didn’t do anything on the layout this week, but spent a couple of days revising and re-organizing my Website.
I did get a couple of pictures of my passenger train “The Prospector”, though. Finally picked up the Walthers diner and obs, so I can run something other than just Pullmans.
Tom[:D]
Here it is on Bullard’s Bar Bridge, pulled by an M-78 4-8-2
TOM, the train runs from Preston south then takes the right hand turnout, goes up grade and then passes back over the mainline about a 1/3 of a mile away. This is a killer in the wet and has stopped more than a few trains in there tracks. BTW nice bridge shot, this is a link to Don Burgess’s web site which has a video clip of the same train but different loco on the front, the shot was taken about half a mile after crossing the mainline at Lostock Hall http://www.burgess57.freeserve.co.uk/60059_6E32.WMV
Great pics, guys! I have been working on a couple of projects. First off, I finished my tunnel! Here are a couple pics of that…
Here’s a basic shot
This one shows the detail of the inside wall of the tunnel
Finally, here is a NS Coal train with a little UP help heading into the tunnel
Lastly, here is a pic of my first structure build. It’s a Walthers “Interstate Fuel & Oil Gas Station” kit. I am going to make it a Shell station. By the way, what do you think of the yellow color on the top? It’s UP yellow, so I’m not sure how it compares to “Shell Yellow”
I did some railfanning this morning in Peoria IL. Took my girlfriends son, he has down syndrome and trying to get him into trains. We caught a freight at the Peo Junction on it’s way to Pottstown.
Later I heard on the scanner the river bridge telling a crew how they were going to have to take this engine back, it has a bad order on the window or something, they also had a nother unit that had a bad air resevoir or something, he stated it was a mess up morning:
Kevin, this is just a question, not a criticism. Inside that tunnel looks a bit light. Was that due to flash, not yet sealed on top/behind, or is the inner lining light in colour?
Not alot of work on the pike this week but here are some new Well Cars. The cars are New Release 5 unit articulated sets. They are “N” and made by Deluxe Innovations. All the walks and details are etched brass, they come with MT trucks and couplers and are cast bodies.
Thanks, uspscsx, but it would be more correct to say IF I ever get it completed! [(-D]
There are two helixs (is that how you make helix plural?[swg]), anyway, one on each “end” of the layout so that a train can travel in a continuous loop from the upper level, down to the lower level, and vice-vresa. The raduis on the helix is 22", and it is 24" everywhere else.
Yes, Crandell I haven’t gotten the back of the tunnel totally sealed yet, so a little light does get in from the back side of the layout. I still need to work on that, but the inner color is black.
P.S. I have just created a Railimages.com account, and there is a link to it on my webpage. I will be adding pics to it pretty soon, so feel free to check it out!
kevnbety, i REALLY like what your doing, inside of the tunnel detail is OUTSTANDING! dthurman, NICE UP pictures! i cant get enough UP,THANKS for shareing! Midniteflyer, i REALLY like your new well cars. great seeing everyones new pics.
