weekend photo fun

Hi guys…guess this is weekend photo fun this week …didn’t see any eariler posts on the last three pages…anyway…took some days off to be here with the roofing contractors to replace my roof…(long story) and have been working on this since Thursday…it’s a “Plastruct” refinery kit and is the most challenging kit i’ve ever done…basically the plastruct kits are nothing but pieces of plastruct that require scratchbuilding for everything …no preformed parts…you have to make them yourself…(whew!)…chuck

Here is mine for the weekend!

Nice refinery, Chuck. Here’s what I’ve been working on this week. I have detailed, and weathered a Walthers 53’ Schneider van trailer. I know, I know, its not directly train-related, but it will be used on the layout, so that makes it close enough for me! [;)] The “mud flaps” behind the tires are pieces that I custom made. Here’s a couple of pics.

I’ve also started weathering my track, by painting the rails to get rid of the shiney, metal look they have. In this pic, the 2 tracks closest to the camera have been done, but the far one has not.

O.K. guys, keep those photos coming!!

Hey, Chuck, your refinery looks great! Scratchbuilding is challenging, but so satisfying.

The surrounding ground cover looks a bit out of scale, though…

Great Pics So far Guys! Heres a conversion of my own i completed. The 1st pic is how the kit looked when i opened it sorry alittle blured but i painted all the parts to make it look more real here they are

Keep em comming!

Carl.

Nice pictures everyone!!!

my before and after road crossing

I meant to post these last weekend, but messed around so long that it was too late. This is some of the work I have been doing over the last 2 months. I still have a lot of scenery work, but here is what I have done to date.

Maybe some of you will remember this “Before” photo.

Busy Day at the Gorge!

Closeup of the Falls and Rapids.

ac4400fan What kind of plant is that? Concrete?

Kevin the trailer looks great. A long scrape near the top rail would be very prototypical as would dings from the inside caused by tow-motors. Doors were often damaged at the lower corners and sometimes one had to be totally replaced. On the sides patches are most often at tow-motor hight and often entire panels were replaced at one time. The roofs were patched and sealed with an aluminized(sp?) sealer, not black tar and some times a section of roof would be replaced from as much as 1/3 of the way from the front or rear. I spent 3 years in a shop that repaired them. Your weathering is very good as it is, I am just tossing out ideas.

Everyone’s work looks good, as usual. Keep it up.

Great work being done out there.
Chuck, I looked over the Plastruct kits/parts and really thought about using them to add on my Walthers Refinery. Yours looks very good, but it sounds like I need to wait until I have plenty of time for them.[^]

Rex, WHOO!!! what achange, really looks great, mine looks something like that (in my mind)

rexhea, nice triple deck scene. Great water. I am envious. I worked on the Mt Sublime cut. It is foam painted direct with acrylic.

Also started the tunnel enterence

The logging crew now has a place to live. Waiting for the crew to arrive

Once again, all the work shown on this thread is an inspiration. I have to single out though, one person’s work that just blew me away so far this week. rexhea, that gorge… I want to go hiking in it! WOW when I do my next water project I can only hope it comes out that good!

I have been waiting for items to get here that I ordered at the LHS a week ago to be able to continue a couple of projects. So, in the meantime, I put together some other stuff.

One more workbench (on the right) for the inside of the Roundhouse. Notice I retro painted the inside black to avoid the “glow” I had in another building after it is lighted. Had to stand on my head and work blind to do it. Oh well, I’ve done better work, but it will be hidden once the roof is on. Painting the little tools on the workbench was also fun…

Put together an old ConCor kit I’ve had sitting around for a couple years. So now the engine crews have a place to hang out. The plastic base will soon be covered…

A crossing for access to the Ash Pit takes shape. Just installed this afternoon (had to mow the lawn one last time and grind up the leaves that have fallen this morning) By tonight it will be stained and the road may be under way.

Very nice work everyone. Can you imagine a week-long seminar at a large arena with all of us giving workshops on our favourite techniques? Wow! I think I’d get really tired of coffee and dingdongs. [(-D]

Part #1- the purchases - Saturday morning was spent a the bi-monthly RR swapmeet. Then a trip to one of the LHS on the way home. Even though the LHS told me on Thursday they were all sold out of the Broadway Ltd. Zephyr cars - guess what they had a pile of them… Here is the morning’s haul.

Stewart FT AB with DCC installed - to be repainted for club use
Atlas GP7 (Kato Drive) w/DCC. - to paint shop
two Stewart F3 (Kato Drive) w/DCC. - for shell swap will be CB&Q.
not pictured - two structures for modular layout.
Oh yeah - also missed the picture Model Power RS3.
Zephyr cars - Silver Gorge, Silver Butte, Silver Rapids, Silver Beaver, Silver Point, and Undecorated will become Sliver Moose.

Part II to follow after operating session tonight …

Today I attempted my first conversion of a cheap loco I picked up at a train show to DCC. You all have put numerous tips out here and they really helped.

Off with the hood, out with the motor and start taping up the bottom.

Saw a tip somewhere and remembered … be carefull … don’t want springs flying everywhere. Let’s see, gray wire on bottom clip … orange wire on …

Engine isolated and back in her home.

And thar she blows … I mean goes [:D].
Now all I have to do is shorten the wiring up and wait until those LEDs come in and then I can finish up the inside.

Art,

Are those the Muir Models?

Nice work guys. Make me want to get to my scenery. I did get to do some at the club this week.

The sand house and fule tank I did last week all snuggled in.

Pensy Passenger 05 preparing for departure.

Great pics everyone!

Rex, the gorge is awesome.

Just one new shot from the PCS, Switch’in in the Mountains.

Thanks everyone for the compliments, but I must say the work shown in all these posts are excellent. We really have a lot of talent on this forum.

Let’s keep it up guys and post some more. I really enjoy seeing them.

Spacemouse, they are the Muir models kind of. I dressed them up a little. I have some strange artistic loggers. The company paints everything blue. I love your detail work. You have a real feel for the setting. I look forward to seeing what you put on your own layout.
