Saturday morning and this is not started yet.I hope I am not out of line here, I tried shooting some night time shots, still have got some things to figure out. I thought they were not to bad for my first time.
This is Cassiny Grain after sundown.
The Fillmore Estate at dusk.
Cassidy Grain just befor midnight.
I have also still trying to get my trees to look right, I think I have made a big improvement, Don’t you think. Not nearly as “bright” Have a good weekend. Mike
Nice. First thing I noticed was the trees. Your artist’s eye is coming around. I like the night shots. Interior lighting of house is pleasing. This is one great layout coming around. That is also a great stone wall.
Working on more little trees for the back of the canyon and making more suguaro cactus. Got a little of the desert scene done. Also got a new radio throttle. The grandkids worked on their dioramas but didn’t finish anything.
The third pic shows the wormhole between Montana and Arizona. The rock formation resembling Devil’s Slide is the wormhole edge.
Awesome work, guys. Mike, I’m inspired to do more interior lighting. Art, is that an N-scale ore train forcing it’s way up the hill and through the perspective?
I’m building the Motley Fuel company coal dumping facility. This uses old Mantua clam-shell hoppers. This is a shot from a couple of weeks back, showing the pit area and the “one-holer” for the coal. There will be a collection box below the layout.
This is a close-up of the ancient track insert which activates the hopper doors under the cars. The rust here comes from Instant Rust, not age. Yes, it extends well above the railheads, and I don’t think I have a loco which can go over it, but this is a dead-end siding and the intent is to just push the cars up and unload them.
I build up a “volcano crater” out of foam, plaster cloth and WS “cinders” ballast. The crater hides the opening for the coal, and it will appear that the coal is dumping on to a large mound below the track.
Great work everyone … been a really long week at work and hot as hades in the garage (90+) by the time I’m getting home.
Mike, those night shots are interesting and Art, that canyon must be breathtaking even in it’s semi finished state. It will be a feast for the eyes when done.
Spent a hour or so early mornings this past week putting together and weathering 4 SP box cars. I am trying to get better at weathering. Now, have to have teach that builder to put in a straight “roof walk” [:I]
Good morning, I did some landscaping on the HO layout yesterday and thought I would share them.
Here is one along the mainline I added a lot of greenery to the rock hill.
Here is a shot of town after dark.
Here is another view of the rock hill.
Enjoy. What is with the weekend photo thread, seems like there very few pics this week,Maybe because I started them for the first time? Mike
Wow guys, all of you guys sure give me a lot of inspiration! Makes me want to go get some work done on the layout right now even, something I haven’t done in a while.
Mike, I really like some of those night shots you do, they are pretty awesome. You’ve got a neat looking layout too, very nice work!
I think with summer time, a lot of people are not spenidng as much time on their layouts. Posting volume in general is down also. I wouldn’t take it personally. [:D]
Hey guys, Im on vacation so I have not done anything to the RR. I actually have not done anything since late May to the N scale or Ho scale. I hope to do a lot of work to the layout this Fall… But heres a Montana Rail Link Slideshow. http://www74.rockyou.com/show_my_gallery.php?instanceid=35034092
Well, here’s my submission to the Weekend Photo Fun collection…It was a very productive weekend. I learned how to clip turnouts to reduce centerline spacing between tracks, learned how to solder rail joints and last but not least, wrestled with bending my first batch of flex track. I’m using Micro Engineering Code 83 pre-weathered track along with Walthers/Shinohara DCC friendly turnouts. I broke ground on my layout back on January 8th of this year and have been taking my time to soak up as much knowledge from this forum as possible before doing any track laying. I hope you enjoy the picture.
Sunday morning I sat staring at this space. Had originally thought to put facia and black curtain as I want to use space underneath for storage.
I thought, why not put something in that triangle and still use the black curtain to access the storage. Just what should I put there ? … it’s on the lower level and obviously well below track level. Hum ??
Let’s see I have some spare masonite and some styrofoam.
Bingo … a rock wall … above I will do a rolling hills scene to hide the loop (ARTHILL … you are the inspiration with that hugh rock wall !)
Add some color and start putting in some vegitation.
Art: That is absolutely amazing. [tup][tup] I have to be careful not to drool on my keyboard.
Tom: I love the way the rock wall came out. Did you stain the rocks? I always did love the streak effect that you can get. Makes it look more believable to me.
Thanks. Yes. I mounted the rock wall and then used the method described in Woodland Scenics for coloring rocks. This is all like terraforming … I really enjoy it. Art’s rock work inspired the thought.
The members in this forum put forth lots of good ideas and new methods. Hope the weekend photos never die. Love the internet.
