Weekend Picture Fun

The weekly thread we share photographs of our model trains with one another just for fun.

This week I decided to do away with the old railway sleepers that formed the dock wall at Clarence Dock.

Before —

I purchased some Victorian Paving.

Paving in place and painted a watery black colour.

Looking forward to seeing everyones photographs this weekend, including Kevin’s.

This is the best thread of the week.

Good morning from partly cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio! After 60’s yesterday a cold front came thru and we are now in the 30’s.

David, thanks for starting us out, I like those pavers in place of the ties.

Nothing complete this week, but I did make some progress on a number of kits!

Continued work on the 86’ Tangent Hi-Cube kit getting the side grabs installed and the door hardware, the lower door guide was a real PITA to install. Should get the first coat of paint on it this weekend.

Also assembled another Red Caboose R70-15 PC&F Reefer kit, got the process down pretty well now. Note, I completed most of the roof detail parts then painted it and masked it before adding all the other detail parts. This kept me from breaking the small parts while attempting to mask the roof.

Another view of my Rapido PRR FA-2’s and FB-2’s with a mixed freight with the pictures taken on the Strongsville Club Layout, I can’t take any credit for the scenery. By the way the first car after the engines is one of the new Rapido X31 boxcars.

David, thanks for giving us the start this weekend. Your new wall looks like it is exactly the right color and fit for your scene. The photo really shows some of the messy side of a real railroad.

Rick, more great car work! You certainly have a real talent in painting and detail work on model cars.

I don’t have much. My layout house is beginning to look better. I still need to get the roof to fit correctly, and finish painting some of the things. This house will sit next to the layout’s church, I guess as a kind of parsonage.

I hope we can get a lot of good photos this weekend!

John - Your “Parsonage” is getting there. Good work!

An interesting development on the BRVRR! After a short E-mail to Berkshire Valley Models earlier this week, a new set of wheels for the Amish buggy arrived in the mail yesterday at no cost. Many thanks to Berkshire models.

Excellent contributions so far [bow] That is a great improvement on the quay wall, David.

That kit sure looks like a real challenge, Rick. I get frustrated at the point of construction where I’m breaking previously applied details while fumbling with adding still others.

Your roof looks just fine, John. I found that peel & stick laser-cut shingles can cover a few fit-up errors I’ve made in the past.

Glad you can proceed on your buggy, Allan! Looks good.

I made a trial run of a new “chrome” look paint that was mentioned, maybe in another forum or did I stumble across it on Amazon? I forget but in either case I’m pretty impressed with the results:

Since I wasn’t too familiar with the properties I found that I have the finish a little too thick in spots so I plan to strip and reshoot. Still, it seems to have some great possibilities. It IS a little pricey at $3785 a gallon [:|]

Another “project” I got into which was a FUN chore was clearing out my six-track staging yard so that I could do a little maintenance and tuck some wiring up that was not secured well.

The “fun” part was assigning a couple engines to pull all the rolling stock up to the main line. Spent a few hours doing that.

Ed,I got some of those chrome pens, have’nt tried them yet. Good work, nice staging. The depot is beautiful the sign fits it perfectly.

Here’s some progress on my layout. As per the "Ships-to-Tanks thread in the prototype forum, I decided to remove the ship idea, and make it a rail to tank, to truck delivery fuel facility This older pic shows where the ship would have been, the mine has been relocated too.

Too crowded for ship, tanks racks and all, so ship got opted out. The area is mocked up with boxes and cardboard, still under developement, but at least I’m moving on it finally.

Here’s a local fuel delivery place I’m hoping to use as some prototype influence. This was a shot of it on my computer screen on google maps. The trim is actually a reddish color.

Great start everyone.

David - Thanks for starting us off and really like the new brickwork.

Rick - Great looking rolling stock as ususal.

John - Looks like a good start on the house.

Allan - Always like to matched sets of covered wagons.

Ed - Sign looks great on the depot. Is your layout in the depot?

Dan - Hope you figure out what you want that scene to be.

This weeks contibution shows a northbound freight train on the Milwaukee line north of Plymouth. I added some new backdrop along the line so I can now get pictures looking north toward the junction.

Thanks, Scott, I agree the sign is a nice touch. I have the “depot” dedicated to garden railroad stuff. “Someday” I’ll get around to rebuilding the G scale layout. The HO stuff is in the nearby basement.

David, Thanks for the fine opening to the WPF, the quaintness of your photos always impart a comfortable feeling.

Good to see all the contributions and projects during the countdown to Christmas.

As MRR Mag’s featured Dec. article says; ‘Every figure tells a story’. A half century ago my late father and I went fishing. After catching a 4 lb trout and having his picture taken he was so giddy on the way home that hitting a pot hole and losing a couple hubcaps off his 57’ Karmann Ghia didn’t even faze him.

Well some base scenery from bottom of frame down to the bridge and slighlty past, it. With an old row to the left. And an old pennsy line at a long gone set of diamonds. to the right it is the end of a commuter run.

Two front range cement hoppers ready for decals now.

Another find at the hobby shop. Atlas version. This is a 456 coal ramp early 50’s. Interesting story here. Apparently the guy that bought it got it new when he was young. Didnt have room so he stored it. been in storage since. Just went to an asssisted living home, his model days are done. This wentto the hobby shop. Brand new never out of the box. I find it and thought it could fit a spot on the Postwar layout. nope 1 inch too long. So where is it. Sitting in its box in storage yet again. Destined to occuppy a box. Kind of funny actually. Does need rewiring, the insulation is just crumbling.

Rick = Work on the Hi-Cube is looking really good.

Allan = Looking forward to seeing the completed buggy. It looks a complicated kit.

Ed = Sydney Yard looks amazing. I wish I had such a large space. [(-D] The Depot sign looks really good; as if it is meant to be there.

Dan = The Rail to Tank scenery is coming along really well. Well done.

Scott. = Having a backdrop gives the feeling of trains going somewhere; a reason to be where they are. Well done.

Bear = Another great cartoon.

Simon = A lovely scene. Running trains is what it is all about.
