I recently got a Mehano 4-6-2 Pacific and it has a strange coupler on the tender. How do I get this thing off to change it to a Kadee?

You do what you gotta do. If there is a screw, unscrew it. Snap on coupler box covers are pried off with an Xacto knife. Rivets are filed off or drilled out. If it is a truck mounted coupler, try removing the truck. Look up your locomotive in the Kadee “what-fits-what” list, sometimes Kadee gives directions. If you plan to convert from truck mounted couplers to body mounted couplers you can just cut the old truckmount coupler off the truck with diagonal cutters.
Cutting off the coupler looks like what has to happen. Underneath the truck looks like a spot to mount the Kadee coupler box. The loco came with no instructions so I am looking around to see what to do. I have the coupler box and coupler if I need to do that but if I don’t I won’t. Just never seen a coupler like this one.
