Weird tank car - load?

Anybody know what this 1979 car carried? Did the tanks lift off or were they plumbed in to a load/unload system?

thanks.

What tank car?

Tank Train possibly?? Pics help a LOT.[:)]

Bump so we can get an image - it could in theory be container tanks on a flat car (which do lift off), some homemade piece of fire-fighting equipment (although by 1979 most North American railroads would have used road or hi-railer trucks), or even an odd European model (Now, they seemed to have had some funky tankcars) - come on, share!

OOPS! Sorry! Forgot to post the link! [banghead][banghead]

You wouldn’t believe the number of things that went wrong / got muddled yesterday.
Thanks for your help.[8D]

Hello David,

These cars carried a list of compressed gases, instead of a company ordeing a whole tank car, they bought what gas they needed. Yes these car loads are lift out loads.

They appear to be 1-ton cylinders that are placarded for compressed gas. Usually, I’ve seen these containing chlorine, sulfer dioxide or phosgene, but if that is what they contain, they are not labled as such. They are probably empties, or have some imflammable gas such as a freon in them. Sometimes they are used because only a relatively small amount is needed, but more often they are used to limit the amout of a toxic gas that could be released from any one container.

Thanks for posting the pic!! That is a cool car.
