Over the years I had bookmarked many threads that were of interest to me. Those links are now functional again and they open in the old forum. Will the old forum continue to function or do I need to find them in the new forum and bookmark again?
Regarding threads opening oldest first, the timeline on the upper right is clickable. Click on the most recent timestamp and you go right to the newest post.
We plan to keep the old forum open for a bit but I recommend you bookmark the threads here.
Well, adding new bookmarks for all of them will be a huge task given how many I have. If I do a search in the new forum with the title of the thread in the old forum they come up and open in the new forum. Will that functionality continue?
Can you provide an example so I’m on the same page?
I’ll reach out to our Discourse expert about the bookmarks as well.
Here is one example. I have this thread from 2016 bookmarked. https://forum.trains.com/t/a-good-looking-control-panel/286691 When I click on my bookmark it opens in the old forum. I did a search here for “A GOOD LOOKING CONTROL PANEL” and found it (which is the link I provided.) If I will be able to do that going forward that will be great.
Is it possible to have the reply to post automatically quote the post? I can see who is being replied to, but not what.
Every forum I’ve ever used has struggled with the threaded conversation vs. linear time-based decision, and there’s no good answer. I personally prefer time-based.
I think I have a handle on this. It looks like all the old threads have been ported over. That means if the old forum goes down I will be able to just search here for them. Thanks for your help.
If you notice, just to the right of the posts there is a thin blue line with a fatter section that shows you what post out of how many you are at. You can drag and drop that fatter section to wherever in the thread you would like, including all the way to the end.
Yes, but if you look closer, some of the longer posts in have been truncated during the copy process. Nick (who is going to be overworked for awhile, I think ) is looking inot that.
As a reminder to everyone, trains.com (the subscription/video/etc site) has a different login than forum.trains.com (the free forum)
This was explained in the welcome email but there seems to be confused people elsewhere on the internet.
Wow, this is great! I can’t believe how much I missed commenting. Now, I’ll see if I can get my old avatar added…
Bill,
Then, take it from there.

Appreciate this reminder*
Good to be back. Been locked out for a while.
Sorry but this is still a most confusing forum. When I click on the Model Railroader category there are still only 4 subcategories. What about categories dedicated to individual scales?
