What an amazing cornucopia of goodies in the catalogs! I’m going to have to figure out how to do some asset conversions to get at least some of those ‘must haves’. What really blew me away was the K-line products of which I was previously unaware. Very nice prices too, that remote control device is a neat trick, how does it work? I suppose the operating cars have to be specially wired though…
Really though, the big L has fired a major broadside IMHO. Everything I wanted, die cast cars, swing bridge, milk can loader/unloader, die cast locos at fair prices and useful little steam locos for yardwork - basically the lot in one fell swoop!
Whilst I’m sure there will be some who find fault for their own good reasons, I have to say from my point of view as a toy train operator, Lionel has hit the bullseye. Gorgeous locomotives, rolling stock, accessories - whats not to like?
Thor,
My wish list sits just shy of $10,000.00! My wife called my father-in-law last night and was complaining about me looking at the new catalogs on-line, he says, ‘He has new catalogs? Why didn’t he bring them over?’ [:)] I told him I didn’t have the printed versions yet, they will be out either today or tomorrow, if not already (haven’t checked since Tuesday), and I’ll bring them as soon as they come in!
I really need to get the new house built so I can start construction on the layout!
I agree with you on the catalogs… lots of interesting stuff!
I also found a lot to covet in these new catalogs. How many I can afford is a different matter. But my number one want in the Lionel catalog is that snazzy Santa Fe F3 with fan driven smoker - conventional controlled for $250ish. That sure is a honey!!
I said the same thing about SuperStreets in another Thread. I just think it would look pretty cool to see vehicles actually crossing the railroad tracks while trains are running. I am wondering if you can install some sort of block control? Whereby the truck/car/delivery van automatically stops at the crossing gate when a train is coming by.
I’ll bet if (when!) SuperStreets really takes off, Lionel will add some very cool accessories. A complete merge between tracks and streets, as far as control and integrated operation are concerned offers mind-boggling possibilities! Maybe 2-3 years away? Sooner? My oh my!
Shoot I have to agree that Lionel did a good job this year! I am gonna run out next weekend when my pay check comes and and splurge at my local dealer.
Thor, they did a great job. I saw a lot of things I like, in both catalogs. The Lionel Sharknose NYC diesels are just about at the top of my list. They are such good looking engines. The Kline NYC RS3 is a nice one too. I love the CSX Intermodal Set, with the SD40-2 and the intermodal cars, the NYC GP7, the PRR E7’s and a lot of other products. I like what they are doing with the scale engines too. They are starting to make them conventional so people that can’t afford the Command engines still have the ability to have scale sized engines. They continue to surprise me with what they are bringing out.
Regarding the KLine streets, it would be cool if they could be command controlled so you could control the movement of the car. Also, build some true replicas of cars seen on the roads today.
Thanks for the information. I had also was directed to Burns for some other control features I would like to have for my layout. I wish their website (www.burnsmanu.com) actually had some information regarding their products. I may drop them an e-mail.
I do agree that paging through the virtual catalogs was exciting- there is a lot of neat new offerings.[tup] NYC seemed to do well, but nothing new on the ACL.
But now we have to wait for those pesky ship dates.[|)]. Speaking of which - does anyone know when the shipping schedule is typically updated? The last update shows to be 1/16/2007.
I agree with you Thor. Not just ONE, but TWO catalogs with LOTS of goodies. Yeah, there’s a short list of things I did not see, but that just makes me look forward to next time (Another TWO catalogs). If they had everything I wanted in one season, I wouldn’t be able to afford half of it (not all at once). Which would make me crazy!
The catalogs were great to review on line. Hope to pick up the paper copies tomorrow.[:P]
Did you see that red satellite car? …I have an original one made in the early 60’s when supposedly Lionel was making their trains cheaper. It still works! Of course, since the price of the value of the car has increased dramatically, we don’t do much satellite launching anymore. [:D]
Not having passed the “Electronics For Dummies” course, I wonder if the ITAD devices could be used to control the Superstreets the same as they are used to operate signals, etc. [8D]
I am hoping someone who has used SuperStreets could chime in. If it is a three rail AC component, similar to track, then the ITAD should work. Can someone provide some insight?
