For the longest time I swore up and down that our layuot would be totally modern. No steam. WELL after the whole Cass Senic RailRoad thing Ive been Shay nuts. Yesterday I got a shay off of E-stupid for 94.00. Brand new in the box. I thought it was a grerat deal. So now I am in the processes of making up a train for 30s to 40s logging operaitons. Thus far I have got 3 flats for cut logs that I got from the yard. A converted reefer to a material car and a cabin car. All older stuff. Now we just wait for the shay to arrive.

Also thinking of doing a point to point in the hallway just for the shay. Nothing extravvagant but senicked and a good representation of a logging operation. Just thought Id share about being bitten by the geardriven steam thing.

Welcome to the club!! There’s something mesmerizing about all those spinning gears and crankshafts. Cass is such a great ride. I want to go there again, especially if I could make one of their fall photo spectaculars. Maybe someday…

Ahh Cass… brings back many good memories. I, like you, have wanted to do a logging layout set in the 30’s and 40’s using a shay and log cars after going to Cass. But, in the meantime, I have a modern-era layout to finish.
