My store is now set up to take Red Cross donations for Katrina Victims. I set up the database so people could use their credit cards or add to their purchases.
It’s not much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s something I could do.
Bernie, I know this is off topic, but it’s a desperate cause.
What one thing can you do? Maybe others hadn’t thought of it.

Way to go, Chip. The local Oldies station up here in the Seattle area ( KBSG 97.3 FM) is having a “Make a donation; Get a song played” weekend. The idea is no song requests will be done this weekend unless the requesting person has made a donation to the Am. Red Cross. It’s going over very well. Lots of people are making donations ( I did yesterday) and of course the music is just great. We are all doing what we can to help. Thanks Chip!

Our local grocery store is taking donations. Its hard not to donate when you here about people going for days with no food or water, I couldn’t imagine that.
Our neighbors are going to need as much help as we can give them, and then some. Here in our area, towns are gathering everything from diapers to food, to cash. Fire depts, kids selling Lemomaid to help the survivors, every age, every denomination is doing whatever they can. If this doesn’t tell us anything about our country, nothing does. We “are” our brothers keeper!!!

Every disaster brings with it lessons learned for the next time. THe locals need to be better organized. It will take years, but the city will be rebuilt. Nothing will be exactly the same. What is important is for everyone to be a part of the solution. Every dollar will be needed.
On the radio Friday I heard the big oil co’s may buy 20 tankers of gas from europe. Causing their prices to rise. There was a concern money spent on gas can’t be spent on other items. THe whole world may yet get involved with this disaster. To every one that helps, I say THANK YOU! I pray for you too!
Thanks for the accolades, but how about some more examples of things that individuals can do. Money is one thing you can give. If you don’t have money, you can donate time.
Here in our town teenagers are taking Red Cross cans and walking between cars at stop lights. Those teenagers here on the forum who wanted to be treated with respect, here’s your chance to do something worthy of respect.

3 days ago here the police arrested 3 teens who were walking between cars on the main section of the mall with large 5 gallon buckets. They were collecting donations for THEMSELVES. They said one bucket had over $1700.00 in it. The buckets read “Please help the people hurt by Katrina” [:(!] It’s a shame.
Man that’s just sickening. Sadly I’m not surprised though. Too many people just live to take advantage of others suffering. [xx(][xx(][:(][:(]
