Well, I finally scared my fiancee because of my love for the Hobby...

This is a good humor story. We laughed about for awhile and thought I would pass it on.

So a few nights ago I was out in the garage where the temp is around 96. Of course, it is a few degrees cooler than outside so I kept the door down. I thought, since I was sweating like crazy, might as well lose the shirt. , It helped and became the ocasional sweat rag…

So after awhiel later, I noticed I still had my work shorts on. Heavy duty blue jean type, and very dirty. So, “What the heck” I figured and took them off too along with my shoes and socks… Just me in breifs, with a fan, and SD70 pullin a intermodul 'round the layout. I was very happy.

Well the girl comes out to check on me and see me standing in the middle of the layout, with a controler, a grin, and me stripped down to the last.

She just stared at me, gave me a funny look then said. “Well, you said you wanted to spend some time with your trains, but I didnt know you wanted ALONE time. Would you like me to put on soft music for you and dim the lights?”

Yeah, I got busted… No dim lights or soft music, but I did ask her to get a couple of drinks for everyone in the room. Then asked if she wanted anything.

Oh well.[:D]

Here’s to hot [8D]weather operations. Make sure you wear your best.

Best Regards

Ever consider investing in a window A/C unit for the garage.

It might save future embarrassment. In addition, sweat and electronic parts are not a good combination.

One must also point out that you are likily to lose interst in the hobby unless you have a comfortable area to conduct it in.

Have fun

Just how many of you were in the room ???

Perhaps your fiancee was more shocked by the fact you were in your underwear in front of a group of others, than by the fact you were running trains in the buff. [swg]

If you found someone that will accept you in your underwear playing with trains.Hey looks like you’ve got yourself a keeper!!!

The fact that she was able to come up with a whitty and humorous remark in such and akward moment proves that she’s a keeper. She might not totally get the model train facination. But she’s a keeper none the less.

Might I reccomend building your layout in a giant walk in freezer. Not only would this keep you from being caught in your altogether, you might actually need her snuggled close to you to prevent the onset of hypothermia. Just a thought.

James.

Can say john ,lol ive been there ,hehe and not long ago my friend

carl…

Well Palace Dog, unforutantly, I am in a rental house and can not install a AC unit as there is no window. And since its brick, wall to the outside, offering to put one is out of the question. (too much work and $$) I have been in the process of trying ot cool it off in there. I insulated the door last week and tonight I reouted a AC air duct into the gagrae. Not sure how much that will help, but should atleast keep it around/under 90. I have one more trick up my sleeve but I will have to wait and see…
But dont worry, I will not lose intrest. if all else fails, I pull the plug for a couple of monhs in the garage and work on upgradeing the cars and add some structures by building some kits. Besides, I work in 90+ degree and up heat all day at my shop. I can grab a cold one and run some trains for an hour no problem.

Timothy,
Well that nite it was just my SD70, my BN GP-38 and my SP Cab Foward. ( he hangs out in the outher side) The 2 EMDs are easy. They will take any beer cold. Unfortunalty, the Cab Foward is quite picky and only likes Scotch on the rocks. Thats what I get for bringing home a BLI engine.

Oh yes, with the lady… She is a TOTAL keeper. She loves the fact that I have a hobby and enjoys the beniffits it provides. The biggest one being that it gives her son and I somethign to do together. He just turned 5 and is getting pretty good at helping out with trains. She is very supportive… Thank goodness

In that case you might want to invest in some good sized fans. They can’t lower the tempature, but they can at least keep the air moving.

You might also try wetting down the roof. Depending on the design of the building, that may buy you a little cooling for a short period. Before A/C was common, my father used to do that to cool things down some. Of course, it works best with a flat roof.

Have fun

I too operate in a garage. I insulated the door with 2" foam actually it was a nice kit from Lowes.
I ran two ducts out there and it brought it down to about 85. I am going back and ripping out the layout to start over this time I am thinking of adding 3/4 inch foam to all of the walls and one of those portable cooling units. The attic is uninsulated over the garage so I really need to insulate that to make any difference.

You might also consider a roof vent or fan in the attic.

How about a bunch of reefers loaded with dry ice? Run them around the layout reee…al fast with the doors open…[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Are you suggesting a couple of whirly birds?
Not sure if a fan would work
right now I just have air hawks on the roof.
What I should of done was bring a 12 pack of beer out and get them to blow my attic space over my garage at construction time.
Oh well hind site 20/20

Since you work in a 90 degree + shop I am sure you know how something as simple as a wet rag draped around the neck can help cool you off. It looks silly but at least you are wearing something besides BVDs.

ok i got a visiual on that whole scene, kinda funny ill admit , but just think if she opened up garage door and the neighboors looked in!!! you should have beenat least wearing a hat and bandana !

First, you could have been naked.
Second, you did scar her but in a good way.
Third, my guess is that you will do it again under the same circumstances!!!

Oh yeah, I will do it again. Heck, I was out there again last nite running the revenue and strutting in my finest whites. It is a bit cooler out there now with the AC duct blowing in. But stlll, less the better. I do have a fan which helps with less clothes since you can feel the draft better.[;)]

Oh, I tought about the neighbors too, If that happened, I would be hidden by the bench work.

Maybe I could start a new club The UWMR! The Underwear Wearin Model Railroaders!
