and please don’t SHOUT at us. Typing in all capital letters on an Internet forum imples that you are angry and are yelling at us.
also ebay . but know what you’re buying and what it sells for at the above listed dealers before you bid . there are lots of people on ebay trying to sell stuff for more than it can be purchased elsewhere (and not just model railroading items)
cacole, I just checked out 1stplacehobbie.com and was IMPRESSED at the prices, and was surprised to see that shipping is actually reasonable (they don’t make up the ‘discounted’ prices in shipping costs!) have you used them, do you recommend them, etc? They’ve got several Walther’s kits that I’m interested in for cheaper than I’ve seen anywhere else. Thanks!
that cheapest place i know on the net is www.discounttrainsonline.com
Hope this helps. “Its where i buy”
jshrade,
Yes, I have shopped at 1stplacehobbies several times, that’s why I have their Web site bookmarked. I have always received prompt service from them, and they have never fouled up an order like some places have.
A big advantage to their Web site is that you know immediately whether or not an item is in stock. With some places, you just have to place your order and hope for the best.
One dealer that I used to buy from would wait for over one month before mailing me a notice that a particular item was out of stock, so I don’t shop there anymore.
Watch your paper for estate sales that list trains. Usually they are in pretty good shape, but you still need to check it out carefully before you leave. The Walthers catalog is worth its weight in gold both on ebay and at other sale sites to let you know whether you are getting a deal or not.
Sometimes you can find a gem in a yard sale or moving sale, but not often. Get there early, as the good stuff goes fast. Prices in these types of sales are usually much lower than anywhere else, but quality does suffer (lots of broken and well used stuff for sure).
You know, some of us older modelers with bad eyes appreciate ALL CAPS!!!(their posts are easier to read). I’ve always thought that online SHOUTING thing to be really, really stupid.IMHO[:)]
Well then bump up the size of the font but please, please use Upper and lower case letters and punctuation. Correct punctuation is optional, of course.
Capital letters indicate an emphasis placed on the word. Everything in capitals indicates everything is emphasized, or shouted. It’s just a custom of usage.
I have a question, though:
Can you bump up the font size in an existing post so you can read it easier? That would sure make it easier on loathar (and me!).
Darrell, quiet…for now
Yes, through your browser’s ‘View’ menu. Both IE and Firefox have a ‘Text Size’ item on that menu that lets you change the size of the text you’re viewing on the whole page. And the options menus of both let you set the default to a larger text size. This works for about 90% of the web pages out there – the only ones it usually doesn’t work on are those feeding a very specific font and size for design purposes.
With Firefox it is very easy to increase the font on the page you’re viewing (if you have a wheel mouse). Scroll down on the mouse wheel while pressing ctrl and alt simultaneously. This increases the font size (larger the further you go - at least to a point).
Back to the original message: I agree with the other recommendations for where to purchase a diesel switcher. I’ve also dealt with Discount Trains, Wholesale Trains, Trainworld, First Place Hobbies, etc. and never had any problems with any of them. Another one to try would be MB Klein at http://modeltrainstuff.com that I have also ordered from with no problems. All those listed so far have pretty good prices and are usually fair with shipping (but you want to verify this for yourself before buying).
By all means, forget the punctuation, after all it’s very hard to hit the , . ? : " ; ’ @ # $ % ^ & but we can all hit the CAP keys. What school did you attend???
