West end of former DM&E line sold to G&W

I am sure the " Bean Counters’ at CPR have made sure that CPR will come out relatively unscathed on the financial deal with G&W. I was reading back over some notes on the deal… In about Sept of 2007 the CPR acquired the DM&E (remember: DM&E had bought I&MRL from Washington Corp in 2002, and its subsidiaries) from English-bases Electra Private Equity for some $1.5 Billion (US$) and there was to be a bonus paid when the D&ME was completed to the PRB Coal Field of an additional $1 B (US$)…

This thing has been going on for a lot of years and has been fought in the Courts, Behind the Scenes and Commented on in "TRAINS Newswire" as well as, any number of times in these Forums ( one example is :@ http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/72932.aspx “Survey says: Minnesotans like DM&E upgrade plan”

Historically, the expansions and contractions of Railroad Companies has been as much political and motivated by personalities, not to mention manoevers to flumox the competition. I am just wondering if any of this has been in play with the DM&E RR. ?

Had the CPR completed the line to the PRB they would have had an additional route into Chicago and US Eastern markets, not to mention Kansas
