As long as CSX is using their money, and not taxpayer dollars for this project I’m okay with it.
Maybe another reason to go to W.VA to railfan!
Another example of fall-out from Maryland’s anti-business Governor and legislature. Sad.
US 219 is about 25-30 miles west of Cumberland in Garrett County and runs north-south thru the western part of that county. US 40 is across the Potomac River from Knobmount Yard.
Anybody ever try to take a container out of Cumberland, MD? News Flash: It’s up hill in all directions. I-68 is called “The Rollercoaster” for a reason. Logistics companies moving containers will most likely add a fuel surcharge to every load in order to compensate for the incurred poor fuel economy of going uphill with a loaded truck. Plus once you get of I-68, the roads instantly turn to garbage. I have seen rancher’s driveways in Texas better maintained and twice as wide. Of course Texas ranchers need to move live beef out every so often, which is why they maintain their own driveways to better than most roads in the east coast states.
Now odds are there is some government assisted pork barrel project under the table behind closed doors in a smoke filled room deal going down here. It is almost guaranteed the provider class will be paying for it and then paying again when the time comes to clean up the under-utilized mess.
Surprised no one has noted that CSX is building a large Intermodal Yard in Chambersburg PA.
That is U.S. Route 220 that passes through Bowling Green, Maryland. If a new bridge is built I would bet it is taxpayer funded.
