Good for Sen. Machin. EHH, be a good soldier and just fade away.
Nice political posturing Joe.
Where were you a month ago when NS could have used your political support?
HH has lost his sense. The final decision will be up to the STB. I’m not a gambling man, but in this case I’m putting my bet that they will shoot down any attempt by CP to take over even 1 mile of NS. Hunter should be talking to KCS. They might get a whole lot farther, and, would benefit with a direct route to Mexico.
I have a comment about the fifth paragraph of this article, which begins: “As if to pre-empt Manchin and other politicians, CP CEO E. Hunter Harrison told investors in a conference call on Jan. 21…”
The Surface Transportation Board has been posting correspondence it received about the merger on its website:
https://www.stb.dot.gov/stb/industry/Merger_Correspondence.html
The posted correspondence includes letters signed by seven other US Senators:
Dec 7: Minnesota Senator Klobuchar
Dec 14: Illinois Senator Durbin
Dec 16: Virginia Senators Kaine & Warner
Jan 13: Georgia Senators Isakson & Perdue
Jan 15: Wisconsin Senator Baldwin
As all of these letters were written prior to Mr. Harrison’s Jan 21 conference call, “pre-empt” is not an accurate description.
Sen. Manchin is beating a dead horse. No way will CP-NS happen. He should be tending business closer to home and combating the Obama administration’s anti-coal vendetta.

A typical political response to what is a common sense solution. When will voters wake up and demand that their reps smell the roses.
I will make a disclaimer here based on what we in Canada ended up with after our last federal election.
Green of Wall Street???You mean the greed of Bill Ackman
