Western Maryland Scenic marks anniversary

An early congratulations to the WMSR folks for reaching their 25th year! We rode WMSR for the first time last July and very much enjoyed the trip!

I must say those steps up to downtown Frostburg are killers though! Particularly in 95+ degree heat.

My father worked in the civil engineering department of the original WMRR. Offices in the Cumberland Station and later stationed out of Hagerstown until 1936. My main memorabilia are two locomootive bells. Both the same and I think one was from the 200 numbered series Pacifics from Baldwin cica 1930. I wonder if his rail passes would still be honored?

Road the WMSR about 15 years ago, before the bike trail was there next to the tracks, behind #734. Was a great time. Our engineer was the guy who was a railroad artist. Anyone know if he is still at the throttle? He’d have to be near 70 now, or more. Especially enjoyed lunch in the depot restaurant and getting pictures from the walkway overlooking the turning of the loco on the turntable.
