Western New York and Pennsylvania RR

Does anyone have any information on the WNY&P? I know they roster a few C420’s, does anyone have info thier complete roster and lineage? Also, what are operations like, frequency? I’m looking make a run out that way, and would love to snag some ALCO’s along the way! ~Thanks, Kevin

Also, the WNY&P has a new president who favors EMD over ALCO; who has
leased three SD40-2’s from HELM and one GP38-2 from NS. The railroad
was also approached about leasing some EMLX SD90MAC’s; no decision
yet.

They have aeb page at

http://www.wnyprr.com/

There is a forum on the line at

Have fun

Howdy:

It is inaccurate that they are switching to EMD’s

If you want a more general look start by looking at the LA&L websies and the Railroad.net pages!

This will give you more info and get you in touch with the people who know.

BTW: Come to the villages of Avon and Lakeville NY. The Alco’s are almost always running around there!!

That is very good news!

I grew up in Salamanca NY, along WNY&P’s main. Check out the old Erie RR station in downtown if your travels take you that way. You’ll also see coal towers still standing (barely), plus the BR&P station across the street, now a nice rail museum

On Salamanca’s east end, you’ll find another sweet station, ex-B&O. Very unique architecture. There used to be a bunch of shop buildings there, too, but they were torn down some years ago

My childhood was in the Conrail / Chessie System days, so I never got to experience the glory of the Erie / EL or the B&O in my hometown (even the PRR made an appearance in Salamanca, as did a trolley line), but the history is deep and very much alive if you know what to look for

Part of the original Erie alignment veers NW from West Salamanca, and it is now a beautiful rails-to-trail. Riding one’s bike, you still pass over all the old bridges which were left in place

I’ve been pouring over exPalaceDog’s forum link, and it does my heart good to see this ex-EL line being well utilized again!
