Western where is it 1/16/06

[:-^]

looks a lot like the tracks along the I-5 Grapevine…north of San B’do.[2c]

tehachipi

That’s what I was going to guess…

That’s what I was going to guess…

EDIT: Stupid internet, led me to believe the first post resulted in an error.

Defently Techapai.

That is some serious construction going on there. Looks like the Tehachapi (correct spelling) area to me.

I would say more like the Cajon Pass area, or possibly AZ or NM. The area looks too open and too desert like to be west of the city of Tehachapi. Not to say that the area west of Tehachapi does not bear some resemblance to desert. The lead locomotive is Speed Lettered, so the photograph was probably taken around 1993 or 1994. There appears to be a realignment or new track going in. Anyone remember where a project like this happened in the mid 1990s in the Southwest?

Also, there are no tracks by Interstate 5 over the Grapevine (Tejon Pass).

Near Acton, right above the 138 offramp near hwy 14, somewhere off that stupid sideroad that goes off to hwy 2 that I can never seam to find or remember where it is when I did find it.
This looks like its near where those old cabeese are layed up, was supposed to be a motel but folded before completion.

Vic, you nailed it. It is between Acton and Vincet / Quartz on the Soledad canyon line. The overpass in the background above the locos is where Solidad canyon road T bones into Sierra highway. This was SP track that was sold to Metrolink in the early 90’s. The way I understand it SP had done the planning for several re-alignments on this route many years ago and Metrolink followed through with those plans after they aquired the line. This was one of several re-alignments to shorten route miles and eliminate speed restricting curves. It also made for some steeper grades for the freights. Dureing this construction several trains includeing the BKDOU / DOBKU tank trains were re-routed over Cajon pass.

Metrolink runs clear to Palmdale?

Thanks Chad, I thought those hills looked very familiar.

Brian, clear to Lancaster actually, the way developments going will likely be out to Mojave sooner or later.

i like these picture guessing games

That’s good to hear.

An Vic, Traffic between Lancaster and Mojave is pretty light and it will probably be years before they extend service. But wouldn’t it be soooo cool to be able to hop a Metrolink train up there to watch trains for a day then return in the evening? Of course that would require service against the flow of commuter traffic.
