Western where is it 10-28-08

Well I’m bored and I have some new material so how about a where is it?

I am going to take a wild guess and say Winnemucca, NV.

Is the 86’ UP boxcar in MOW service?

I guess I was changing my guess while you were replying.

Hi Eric, nice call for a wild guess, but no, it’s not Winnemucca.

My second guess is Wells, NV

GOOD CALL !!! Right on the money. This is the old Wells branch of the UP (pre WP merger) from Twin Falls, Id. It was a shortcut for PNW - northern Cal. traffic (and if memory serves one of the last places where mixed trains were operated on a mainline). It was abandoned in the 70s). This is also the east end of the “paired track” where the exWP heads southeast to Salt Lake City via Arnold loop and the exSP heads east tward Ogden via Montello Hill and the Great Salt Lake causeway. To the west eastbounds use the former WP and westbounds use to former SP. An arrangement dateing back to WW1.

…I’ll just take a wild guess…Somewhere between Boulder City, Nv. and Hoover Dam…on the branch that was used to transport materials to the Dam Construction.

pssst…Quentin: Check Chad’s post directly above yours.[:)]

Yes, it is plainly visible…but I didn’t even look at any of the guesses before I submitted mine.

Q, That branch (Henderson branch?) that was used to supply the dam looks to be pretty much intact. The highway grade crossing is paved over and the gates are gone but other then that the track structure looks in pretty good shape (at least where I’ve seen it).

Good guess though.
