I think this week will be steam week for the where is its.
On the bypass of the GSL west of Ogden UT[:)]
Yep, that sure looks like its near the Utah Salt flats near the Great Salt Lake
East of Wendover UT/NV on the former WP.
i do not know but it is a great picture mr chad
Not Utah.
Not Utah, but it is ex WP track.
North of Lancaster or Rosamond, CA?
No, See my reply to corwinda’s.
I did see that, but I’m not sure about where WP used to run. IIRC, the N/S track out of Lancaster is ex-SP, so I thought it might qualify, and the terrain looks similar (I’ve been up to Edwards a couple of times). So I took a SWAG…
The WP ran south out of Oakland, crossed Altimont pass to Stockton then north to Oroville then east through the Feather River Canyon and across northern Nevada to Salt Lake City. They also had the Highline that ran from the FRC up to a BN (GN) connection in Bieber, close to the Oregon border.
I am going to guess somewhere around Oroville, CA.
I have no clue where the picture was taken, but nice pic!
There are salt flats in several places along the WP in Nevada - around Wendover (east and west into Utah) and also the Honey Lake area in California near Wendal. The last times I was in either area was before I started school – I don’t remember it too well!
It’s on the ex WP east of Gerlach on the Black Rock desert. It was taken on the return trip from San Jose for the NRHS convention in 93’ (or 94’ not sure). This spot is known for hosting the annual Burning Man festival where people from all over come to get freeky in the desert.
