I’m gunna try something a little different today. The first photo was taken in the 50s. The second was taken this year.
The second picture was taken from the road to the right and above the locomotives in the first, and looks back tward the first some fifty odd years later. The rails here are gone now.

Old CP/UP ROW pulled up during realignment, I agree with above.
You’re on the right track guys, but can you be more specific?
I don’t know, but I like the first picture better. I can’t even see the tracks in the second one.[:O]
I would say somewhere near Elko,NV.The tracks were reconfigured some years back to eliminate two seperate railroads running through the middle of town.

That’s the point. There are no tracks. The road in the foreground is on abandoned right of way.
Elko is a good guess but it’s a bit west of there.
I may have made a mistake on the date of the first photo, it might have been taken earlier then the 50s.
I know nothing about that area Chad but those are interesting comparison photos.
The photos were taken between the “big bend” on the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake on the Truckee river. The railroad was Southern Pacific’s Fernley and Lassen branch, which became apart of the Modoc line between Wendal, California and Fernley, Nevada. The section between Flannigan< NV and Fernley, NV was abandoned during the mid 1960s.

Right on the money Jim. That’s two in a row right Jim. Good job.
Here is another shot closer to Pyramid lake. Both of the older photos were from David Myrick’s Railroads of Nevada and Eastern California, Vol 1.
You must have snuck this in while I was posting. I’m sorry I didn’t see this till just now. Had I seen this I might have accepted it as it’s the next town to the south of this location although Nixon is closer and would have been more acceptable. How about you get honerable mention?[;)]
