Western where is it 3/22/06

Taken in 93’ on a UP (pre-merger) line:

Nice photo Chad! This is again a Nevada photo taken somewhere along the course of the Humboldt river? My guess is near Winnemucca, NV?

Jimmy B

I like the clouds. I’m going to venture that’s snow-covered Wheeler Peak in the background, so I’ll go with Golconda, NV.

Come on guys, It’s way too green to be Nevada.[swg]

Hint: this has been a UP line for over 100 years

Consarn it! Ok, somewhere between Ogden UT and Rock Springs, WY.

No Chad, its not too green to be Nevada, let me show you some green along the Humboldt. But, I missed the clue you gave us!

Eastern Oregon then?

Jimmy B

Yeah, especially in a year following some good snow (snow = green plants in the Great Basin, Sierra Nevada & Rocky Mountains = my current research expertise)

I’m going to guess Idaho… Northwest of Boise somewhere. Then again, what do I know? I’m from Chicago.

CC

[:D] I was being a smart a$$. Even though it’s not that green, it’s still greener then Nevada.
I know of a lot of places in Nevada that are lush and green though. Don’t get me wrong though, Nevada is still one of my favorite states.[;)]

Not eastern Oregon, Not east of Ogden.

Well judging from the mountains, and the bald spots on them, I think you may be right as to Idaho. Looks like somewhere in the Columbia plateau which includes eastern Oregon and Washington and sourthern Idaho along with a part of northern Nevada.

Jimmy B

BTW, good where is it!

It’s not anywhere around Boise.

Well, I’m just firing randomly now: Grand Junction, CO.

Notice he ruled out Boise, but didn’t put the dampers on Idaho!

Jimmy B

Michael (or is it Mike I forget) the line through Grand Junction was a DRGW line till Anshutz bought the SP in 87’. I’ll repeat the hint above:

Hint: this has been a UP line for over 100 years

Yes, but has to be over 100 years old. Perhaps somewhere on the Oregon Shortline?

Michael

Nampa, ID. …close to Boy-See.

No where near Boise.

How about around Cheyanne wY on Sherman hill some place

No Ed, It’s not on the transcon.
