Western where is it 4/21/06

Here’s one for the weekend

Is that somewhere out near Palm Springs? ( but I dont know exactly where)

There are pleanty of clues to help pinpoint this one.

I think the cantilever signal rules out the ex-WP across northern Nevada as well as the LA&SL. Snow-capped, smog-obscured mountains lead me to agree with vsmith; somewhere down the east slope of Beaumont Hill. Two mains plus a siding and spur; or a single main with two sidings and a spur. Flat, open, sandy foreground and the mountains being fairly distant make me think this is somewhere east of Garnet, but not where those trees line the right of way providing protection from blowing sand.

The pole lines say UP. I can’t remember the name of the station right off, but at/near where the ATSF and the UP join East of Cajon. The location of the headlight on the stack train and the reflection from the locomotive make we want to say a Santa Fe Toaster.

The Salt flats onf western Utah.

I’m suprised nobody nailed this one. With snow capped Mt. San Jacinto in the distant background, the signal and multiple sideings it should have been fairly easy. It’s Niland on the Sunset, the only wide spot in the road between Indio and Yuma.

I knew it was out that way somewhere east of Palm Springs but I couldnt pinpoint it, I thought that was Mt San Gregornio in the background.[B)]
