You guys are all wrong. It’s a set of white Kansas City Southern units with the red lettering badly faded going through a blizzard on that new Antarctic Transcon.
Thanks Chad. I actually got to see quite a few geysers go off while I was there, but this one (Castle Geyser) was by far my favorite. The cone is simply huge on Castle (due to it’s old age…it’s the geezer of the geysers in the Upper Basin). During the eruption, all the water that is ejected cascades down the cone. Really a neat one to watch!
I guess if I had seen Steamboat go off, that might have eclipsed it, but Steamboat erupts anywhere from every 4 days to 90 years. Still, at over 300 feet during eruptions, it must be quite a sight!
[:O] 4 days to 90 years !!! WOW that’s a wild varience. I’ve only been to Yellowstone once, but was there for a week. I love that place, it’s so awsome.
In about 1973,we went visiting relatives in Shoshoni, Wyoming. I’d say this photo is taken on the footbridge over the Wind River, about 1/2 way between Shoshoni and Thermopolis?
There were a couple Geyser Foamers (for lack of a better term) around Grand when I watched it go off. They mentioned a couple of oddities, but I don’t think Fan or Mortar were among them.
Sorry I can’t be of more help. By the bye, I’m quite envious of you catching even a small eruption of Steamboat. If money were not an issue, I think I’d head back today and camp out there and just watch that one! [:D]
