I never heard of Hinkley, Ca. Brian, so my first thought was ‘way off’. But then I looked it up and you are close. I never knew that area to be called Hinkley though, next time through I’ll pay attention.

Actually Newberry Springs, but good enough, Good job !!![tup] This is where the pink AT&SF ballast comes from. There is a conveyor belt from the ballast pit (to the south) that crosses under I-40 to bring the ballast here where it is loaded into hoppers. You can see the conveyor that loads the cars, and the pile of ballast in the center.

Chad, Hinkley was the town where the people were poisoned by the hexavalent chromium. Really an unfortunate way for a town to become relatively well known.
