WGH on Tour in Chicago

This weekend, the “World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour” will be in Chicago (or at least the Chicago area). It looks like an interesting show, and I plan to be there Saturday. And it’s apparently about a half mile away from a Cheesecake Factory restaurant.[:D]

Anyone else planning on going?

Not unless they move it 360 miles to the east.

Tom

The show was here in Indianapolis last weekend, and I didn’t even bother to go. It’s ten bucks just to walk in the door, plus the state fairgound’s facility charge to park, all to see vendors selling stuff at or above full retail price.

No thanks.

Jim

I hope you go and have a great time. We were at the one last weekend in Indianapolis and met a lot of very nice people. I’m guessing the attendance was around 30,000. There were plenty of layouts, displays and vendors. I think the WGH shows do a great job of promoting model railroading in a positive way to newcomers who will be the future of our hobby.

Wish we could be there, but it falls just a little too close to the Amherst Railway Society Show in Springfield, MA. Needed some time to come home and regroup for that show.

Enjoy the show!

Jim

The tour hits Salt Lake City on February 4 and 5; I’ve already marked my calendar.

Have fun in Chicago!

An ad I heard today on a Chicago sports talk radio station mentioned several operating layouts – WGH, in common with Milwaukee’s Train Fest, is not a swap meet and it is more than vendors. I know money is tight but in the bigger picture, what are we comparing the expenditure to?

Dave Nelson

I know it won’t be like a typical train show, with people and store owners coming from all over to sell off old collections and other odds and ends, but there should be quite a lot to see with so many manufacturers around.

They’ve apparently allowed free parking for this show, so that’ll be quite a bit of savings right there.[:D]
