What a Hoser...

While watching a BNSF coal train heading into Missoula today, I noticed an extra hose between the hoppers. It appeared to be a smaller diameter than the air brake hose. Is this hose related to unloading the hoppers in some fashion?

And, as my wife pointed out, there was NO GRAFFITI on any of the hoppers! So my guess is that this particular train is a Unit train from the Powder River to a power plant somewhere far from town, and it doesnt spend much time in yards not in motion!

Thanks…

Take off, Eh? I thought this thread was about tuques, back-bacon and donuts! Dont be a hoser!

That’s exactly what the second line is for–unloading the cars at a power plant equipped to handle large volumes of coal dumped very rapidly (unloading this way is much faster than via rotary dumpers).

We’ve had threads in the past about unloading these cars; someone may be able to point them out to you, and you’ll get much more detailed information.

Thaks, I’ll try to do a search. What would be a good “key word” to narrow the search down…there are over 666 pages of topics now!

How about rotary ?

You forgot KD, Smarties, Poutine, Vinegar on your chips, Butter tarts, and on and on and on and on and on, on ,on -----------so really, anyone, whats that other hose for eh?

What aboot that other hose?

It supplies the air operate the rapid discharge system on the cars.

666?! That’s a nice number to have, especially this close to Halloween [}:)]

Yes, it usually comes after 665 and before 667…[;)]

Usually?

Depends on who’s doing the counting…[:D]
