What about grapes?

I was looking at the 30 second tree post–I did finally get through-- and was what he had done with berries stems. The trees most of you are making are taller and straighter than the masssive knarls that of forest I was planning to model. Then I thought about grapes. Any one use grape stems?

nope…no grape stems…i use the blooms from the crepte myrtle tree…they have a complex branch structure and make excellent trees…I cut them from the tree, pluck off all the blooms, paint them with brown spray paint, and then hot glue woodland scenic’s foliage to each of the branches…chuck

I would have never thought of grape stems. Seems to me they would work very well for what you stated. Grape stems are pretty gnarly and close together so good clumps are a possibility. All you can do is try it and maybe you’ll like it. You have nothing to lose but 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. Have fun with the experimentation.

That is a good idea Chip. I have a member at my church that is a grower. He has many kinds of grapes. I will have to talk to him and get some different kinds as well. Wonder how long they need to dry? Plus you get to eat them first. [dinner][dinner]

I’ll have to try that next summer–I grow grapes in my backyard and will have an abundance of them.

What a great idea! Heck, even as the grapes it out on the kitchen counter overnight the stems begin to dry - it shouldn’t take much for them to be really dry. Thanks for the idea.

I love grapes, man! They are good for you, healthy, and now a major part of your model railroad diet! Hey, honey, pass the grapes; my mountainside needs a bit more foliage.

Seriously though, I am amazed at the creative juices that are flowing in this forum!

Hey Chuck I have a crepe myrtle tree on the side my house, what a great way to use the pruning. I have collected many end of tree stems that would resemble scale model trees. Thanks for the tip!
