I was invited to go to a widows place tonight and see if I was interested in her deceased husband’s layout. It was a nice simple layout with a lot of older engines, mostly Blue Box but one or two other brands including two Mantua Locos. I know those who like Mantuas like them a lot and even love them.
I told her not to give them away as they may be worth something. One was a Richmond and Potomac Pacific and the the other was a Mikado. They looked old but in good condition. What would be considered a reasonable asking price?
I want to second Ray’s opinion and add that I tossed the only one I owned many years ago into the trash. I don’t recommend disposal of any trains like that, especially if they were given to you by someone in the family who thought they were great.
Ebay is a great place to unload things that we don’t want and my advice to myself is to start using Ebay. I have so many early BB diesels and cars that have not been used for twenty years and will never turn another wheel.
Ray, if you read this, what is your opinion of the latest Proto NKP Berkshires with the improved drive wheels??
