What are some of your creative solutions?

Hello everybody,

I would like to start a discussion on your creative solutions. Us model railroaders are a very unique bunch that in order to pursue this great hobby have had to create a large variety of skills. This also brings along outside of the box thinking to typical obstacles. So the question is what kind of creative solutions have you come up with to overcome a problem. This can be any kind of problem or issue. Ie my latest issue is a lack of space for my HO layout. So going three levels with a 6 loop helix in a 9’ by 11’ rooms creates some operating possibilities. Using christmas led’s to light my structures, going to a drywall and accoustic tile store to purchase hydrocal, using a computer power supply as a power source. These are the kind of items I am thinking about.

The reason for this subject is that it could turn into a great reference for us and also enable all of us to learn from each others experiences.[:)]

Collapsable Turntable. Tom WHite biilt a nice Rio Grande layout with no easy way to turn his lcos. My solution was to build a turntable on a side-folding ledge, that he could pull up when needed, and when he didn’t fold it out of the walkway. Don’t think he built it, but liked it.

And I may be using tissue for bunting

Always looking for “stuff” to haul around on flatcars, gons, etc. so I took apart my old computer and also an old record player, the wooden monsters with 45’s 33’s etc, what a gold mine of parts springs, screws washers, belts, electrical parts and on and on, I now have a few jars full of tiny washers, screws, nuts, you name, it it’s in there, a virtual gold mine.
