What Are These New Lights

Hi Guys .I was woundering ,me and my sister were going to her house the other night and we came apon a U.P Ac-4400 8 engines and it was at night ,but i noticed that the sides were lite up by the trucks is this some new night lighting,And has anyone done this with there locos?

Locomotives have been like that for years,nothing new. I think your talking about ,the light that hangs over the trucks,right ?

Yes it is i havent seen a loco at night in awhile i guess ,anyone prototyping this?

I remember about 20 yesrs ago a model with the ‘underbody’ lights. Bob Rivard used micro bulbs and fiber optics to do this on his SOO SD40-2’s. On older engines, you will usually see a light just below the engineer’s cab window, at frame level. This was applied so that the engineer could see if the train was moving at night, Some railroads even had ‘underbody’ light on their steam engines(DM&IR).
